I always feel cheated when I discover a Snopes de-bunking, so I erased.

1. It's a good story
but according to Snopes, not true.

2. Egg on MY face! I ALWAYS check Snopes, but didn't here - guess I was too caught up emotionally.

But glad that it's not true, and I hope there aren't other similar stories out there are ARE true. Reminded my of the ppl having to give up or otherwise hide and sneak out their pets when leaving Alabama, LA, etc., during Katrina.

3. well, I didn't mean for you to erase it
it was still a good story. Fiction can be a good read, too.

4. Unfortunately, there are many animals abandoned by
military families. I used to volunteer at the shelter here and it is all too common.

Not necessarily war deployments. So many people seem to think pets are just disposable toys that you give up when it is no longer convenient.

6. So sorry to know that.....
 All of our pets are rescue: currently two racetrack rescue greyhounds, 1 white lab, and a malti-poo abandoned on our front steps in January 2008 when she was only a 3-month ball old of fur.
