6. The declaration of Independence was not written on hemp
from http://wiki.monticello.org/mediawiki/index.php/Declaration_of_Independence_Paper

A number of sites on the Internet claim that the Declaration of Independence was written on paper made from hemp. As far as we know, this is not true.

The finished document signed by the delegates to the Continental Congress was engrossed on parchment, which is actually made from animal skin. Thomas Jefferson's original Rough Draft of the Declaration is now in the Jefferson Papers collection at the Library of Congress. According to the Library of Congress, analysis by paper conservators has determined that the paper is mostly likely Dutch in origin. While hemp was commonly used to make paper in Southern Europe during this time, the Dutch were much more likely to use flax or linen rags.

7. I have to respond to those points before I bugger off and watch "The Best of Both Worlds"
1. Money isn't made out of paper, it's made out of cotton.
Made in the USA, I hope...

2. The Declaration of Independence was written on hemp (marijuana) paper.
So THAT'S why it's guarded!!

3. The dot over the letter i is called a 'tittle'.
ii -- are those tittlies?

4. A raisin dropped in a glass of fresh champagne will bounce up and down continuously from the bottom of the glass to the top.
Cool! It's like a lava lamp but doesn't require electricity! (though it costs four times as much...)

5. Susan Lucci is the daughter of Phyllis Diller.
Which one's "the big mouth", again? :D

6. 40% of Mc Donald 's profits come from the sales of Happy Meals.
And the other 60% comes from their premium salads (which don't contain spinach, may I add)
http://www.mcdonalds.com/usa/eat/features/salads.html

7. 315 entries in Webster's 1996 Dictionary were misspelled.
Cool!

8. The 'spot' on 7UP comes from its inventor, who had red eyes. He was albino.
Innovative.

9. On average, 12 newborns will be given to the wrong parents, daily.
Oops.

10. Warren Beatty and Shirley MacLaine are brother and sister.
Ah, but did they marry?

11. Chocolate affects a dog's heart and nervous system; a few ounces will kill a small-sized dog.
Yipes.

12. Orcas (killer whales) kill sharks by torpedoing up into the shark's stomach from underneath, causing the shark to explode.
There's a Kodak moment.

13. Most lipstick contains fish scales.
GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

14. Donald Duck comics were banned from Finland because he doesn't wear pants.
Those Finnish know how to quack me up...

15. Ketchup was sold in the 1830's as medicine.
Did they contain hemp seeds or leeches back then?

16.. Upper and lower-case letters are named 'upper' and 'lower' because in the time when all original print had to be set in individual letters, the 'upper case' letters were stored in the case on top of the case that stored the smaller, 'lower case' letters.
I wish I was drunk right now, then I'd have an excuse not to understand that one.

17. Leonardo Da Vinci could write with one hand and draw with the other at the same time, hence, multi-tasking was invented.
But what about those special, lonely nights?

18 Because metal was scarce, the Oscars given out during World War II were made of wood.
Additional: Pennies were made from steel with a zinc coating as copper was needed for the war effort...

19. There are no clocks in Las Vegas gambling casinos.
Cult indoctrination centers lack clocks too.

20. The name Wendy was made up for the book Peter Pan; there was never a recorded Wendy before!
Cool!

21. There are no words in the dictionary that rhyme with: orange, purple, and silver!
Pity...

22. Leonardo Da Vinci invented scissors. Also, it took him 10 years to paint Mona Lisa's lips.
Since he lopped off his own ear, he could have saved some time AND prove he was a total psycho and use the scissors to cut off some woman's lips.

23. A tiny amount of liquor on a scorpion will make it instantly go mad and sting itself to death.
Hey cool! And did you know that sprinkling salt on a slug causes it to melt? I'll bring the booze if you have some french fries...)

24. The mask used by Michael Myers in the original 'Halloween' was a Captain Kirk's mask painted white.
O.M.G. I am so going to have nightmares tonight!!

Why not use this guy instead?

25. If you have three quarters, four dimes, and four pennies, you have $1.19. You also have the largest amount of money in coins without being able to make change for a dollar.
I'm penniless, does that help?

26. By raising your legs slowly and lying on your back, you can't sink in quicksand.
Yeah, but then people will think I'm a slut.

27. The phrase 'rule of thumb' is derived from an old English law, which stated that you couldn't beat your wife with a stick wider than your thumb.
Didn't that inspire a song by the Rolling Stones?

28. The first product Motorola started to develop was a record player for automobiles. At that time, the most known player on the market was the Victrola, so they called themselves Motorola.
COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT! COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT! SUE! SUE!! (Microsoft did it to Lindows because of Windows...)

29. Celery has negative calories! It takes more calories to eat a piece of celery than the celery has in it to begin with.
I thought celery had calories, but the time to consume it more than compensates its caloric quantity. The celery itself DOES have calories; it is an impetus that derides it of the caloric content.

30. Chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying!
Thx for the tip!

31. The glue on Israeli postage stamps is certified kosher.
Mmm, tasty!

32. "Guinness Book of Records" holds the record for being the book most often stolen from public Libraries.
It figures. And they knew about that, how?

33. George Carlin said it best about Martha Stewart.
"Boy, I feel a lot safer now that she's behind bars. O. J. Simpson and Kobe Bryant are still walking around; Osama Bin Laden too, but they take the ONE woman America willing to cook, clean, and work in the yard, and they haul her off to jail."

I agree.

8. about the scorpion one
A tiny amount of liquor on a scorpion will make it instantly
go mad and sting itself to death.

False.

The notion of a scorpion stinging itself to death is an
ancient allegory. That is, if it is surrounded by fire or by
enemies, or even if one puts liquor or alcohol on a scorpion
that these things will cause it to sting itself is a falsehood.
It is untrue since the venom has no effect on the scorpion itself,
nor on any member of the same species.

actually, a lot of that stuff is untrue, and although the original email has been changed, here is a link that states which ones from the original were really true or not:

http://www.superkids.com/aweb/pages/humor/042207.sht

most are not true and Leonardo Da Vinci did not invent scissors

9. #20 is false
But we have absolute proof that there were earlier Wendys, thanks to the just-released 1880 U.S. Census and the 1881 British Census (available here). These documents show that the name Wendy, while not common, was indeed used in both the U.S. and Great Britain throughout the 1800s. I had no trouble finding twenty females with the first name Wendy in the United States, the earliest being Wendy Gram of Ohio (born in 1828). If you include such spelling variations as Windy, Wendi, Wenda, and Wandy the number triples.
