1. Rip and tear, Bruno! RIP AND TEAR!
Edited on Mon Sep-14-09 05:27 AM by Amerigo Vespucci
I've posted "3D House of Stewardesses" here a few times.

Other faves include Count Floyd's "Blood Sucking Monkeys From West Mifflin Pennsylvania" and "Garth And Gord And Fiona And Alice" ("maybe it was the house that bummed the mouse out")...

...but in the end, the show was one big favorite. The cast let you in on the joke, and you went along for the ride.

3. I think I'm going to have to request the DVDs for Christmas
:)

I remember watching it when they broadcast it here (I'm guessing the same years they broadcast in Canada, as it was the very early 80s.) I think it came on locally after Fridays, so we were always up late to see every episode :D

The Russian TV parody was one of my favorite shows. That and the "Battle of the PBS Stars".

4. A lot of the original music was replaced...
Edited on Mon Sep-14-09 10:49 AM by Amerigo Vespucci
...the DVDs were top quality (from Shout Factory, the company that is now doing the MST3K box sets).

BUT...for legal reasons...some of the songs in the sketches have been replaced. One example: "The Gerry Todd Show," with Rick Moranis...he played the "Video DJ"...and one of the videos he played was Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young doing "White Christmas"...the joke being that "Crosby" was Bing Crosby, and Stills, Nash and Young were...well, Stills, Nash & Young. Moranis plays Young, holding a Les Paul, who rips into the opening riff from "Ohio"...then Flaherty (as Crosby) sings "White Christmas" over the riff... and when he gets to the end of the "And may all your Christmases be white" line, "Stills, Nash & Young" harmonize on the "doo doo doo doo doo, DOO DOO doo doo doo doo" bit from "Suite Judy Blue Eyes."

It's been a while since I looked at the DVD, so I forget how they changed it, but it is not the way I described it above. Fortunately, I still have that episode on an old VHS tape.

There is a Web Site that I found a while ago that details the changes made in the DVDs. That's what took so long for them to come to market, and if they'd held firm on remaining 100% faithful to the originals, we'd still be waiting.

7. That entire CBC episode was comedy gold.
Contrary to popular belief, Canadian football actually has four downs, not three - but we always punt on the third down just to be safe.

6. Stupid music rights...
How many DVD sets have been screwed up for that reason?

SCTV
WKRP
Northern Exposure
(I'm betting) thirtysomething

...others?

Not to mention that "URGH! A Music War" will never get a legit DVD release...

9. Night School High-Q is my all time favorite...
To this day I frequently interrupt friends by guessing they are about to say "Dewey Decimal System?" or "a small vice-like object?"

11. I talked to Dave Thomas on the radio one night: Bob Hope/Woody Allen,
and how he met Hope, who thought his impression was pretty good.

also about Max von Sydow in Strange Brew, and a few other things

that was fun

got some free DVDs off him, too

I have most of their stuff on Beta and VHS

favorite is hard to pick:

polynesian town

the man who would be king of the popes

chariots of eggs

anything with William B

Billy Sol Hurok and Big Jim McBob

Rick Moranis doing Michael McDonald in "Ride Like the Wind" vuhdeo
