I lost

I lost my race for re-election as a member of the Manchester Board of Aldermen.

While ostensibly a non-partisan race, Republican millionaire state senator Ted Gatsas energized the GOP base and pulled the vile right wing activist Joe Kelly Levasseur along on his coat tails. The guy I defeated two years ago, Pat Long, held on to his base of older Democrats and city employees. There just wasn't a niche for a fiscally consrvative/socially progressive moderate Dem in a low turnout race.

I do want to thank DU's Zanne for her help in the campaign. Knowing that there are people out there who are willing to put their time, tears, sweat, and effort into your race because they believe in you takes some of the sting off of this otherwise lousy evening.

I'm really sorry to hear this...

I hope you will run again

Losing an election really hurts. I once ran for House Rep. and when I lost, I couldn't help but wonder if any of my friends had voted against me. Everyone I saw seemed slightly suspicious. I know that it was paranoiod thinking now, but back then it really hurt. My father was a politician and when he lost the race for mayor I cried for days. I thought that meant that nobody liked my father.

So, losing sucks, but it's far from the end of the game for you. Time and place have so much to do with it. You'll be back and I'll be making more phone calls for you in no time.
