ugh! I hate - HATE - when people call me PC for calling them out on bullshit
fuck, that shit pisses me off.

Look, if you say something plainly sexist/racist/homophobic/douchey and I call you out on it, calling me PC is not going to make me respect your opinion. If I say something offensive, you can call me out on it, and I will usually try to see what I said, and why it sucked, and make an effort to not say it anymore.

Telling me that some woman is "dressed like a whore" because she has skimpy clothes on just pisses me right the fuck off, and anyone who thinks I am PC is obviously not paying attention. I don't give a flying fuck if she was pretending to be a prostitute, don't continue the ignorant sexist crap of saying "she was dressed like a whore". What, does she deserve to be raped too?

Seriously, give it a rest. A man or a woman is allowed to dress any way they want to, right?

</rant>

Sorry. And no, I am not defending the FOX "news" "journalist" or anything, and YES I get she was trying to play a part, but come on! Neither of them looked like anything but bad racist caricature Halloween costumes as worn by over-privileged suburban kids, so no; I do not think she "looked like a whore" I think she looked like she was trying to look like a prostitute.

Ok, NOW the rant is over.

1. Righteous rant.
Not long ago there was a thread calling Maria Bartiromo a "bimbo" for saying something stupid. When that sexism was pointed out, the "you're just being PC" crowd came out in force. Basically their message was "shut the fuck up, bitch."

2. exactly
And frankly, any self-respecting progressive would say "my bad - I did not realize I was being an asshole" instead of falling back on some defensive and childish conservative bullshit attack.

3. Just a question..
Maybe I'm missing something but I am looking for the link between either "trying to look like an xxxxxx" or "looking like an xxxxxxx" and rape. Where xxxxxxx=prostitute or whatever word you want to refer to that person as.

Are you saying that when someone says that someone looking like or trying to look like an xxxxx they are implying that she wants to be raped?

5. well, perhaps it's a stretch, but it seems to me that whenever I hear/see the phrase
"she looks like a whore" not only does it piss me off because it's degrading to actual sex workers, but also because it's very controlling; it's saying that women who are not whores cannot dress a certain way, or if a woman does dress a certain way, then she is a whore. The next step is that I often see this phrase in conjunction with the old "she was asking for it" bullshit when someone gets attacked.

It just seems to go hand in hand so often, it's hard to separate the mentality of one from the other, that if a woman is "dressed like a whore" then anything which happens to her is her own fault. In this case, the person did not make that jump, but it still irks me to see this kind of comment, then worse to see it defended by calling me PC for saying something.

13. My clients who were whores took pride
in how they dressed. And, yes, they dressed like whores.

They never described themselves as "sex workers," either. The one they preferred was "date." Every so often, they were a guy's date.

Hardly a PC group, that bunch, but a great bunch of people. I loved when they showed up...

4. Well, what do you expect them to do... improve their behavior? Grow up? Recognize their error?
"PC" is just about the lamest, laziest way of defending one's own bad manners. Once upon a time, we called it common decency and it wasn't a political statement; it was decorum.

6. I mock guys for dressing poorly just as much as girls...
Edited on Wed Sep-16-09 06:02 PM by armyowalgreens
Usually I mock the people that dress like douche bags.

There is a difference between someone dressing poorly because they cannot afford better clothing and someone that is clearly spending shit loads of money on douche-patrol uniforms.

But that's just me. Maybe I am being too visually judgmental.

Bottom line is that all too often, the way you dress expresses your personality. Not always, but very often it does. If someone is dressed like a bro, I'm going to assume they are an asshole.

7. Don't get me wrong - I too can be catty about things
My point was specifically saying "she was dressed like a whore" simply because she had skimpy clothing on. I just find it distasteful, and there are better ways to express it which are less sexist.

14. Taste - there's no accounting for it.................
Me, I'm blessed with excellent taste, and yet there are some who would tell you that I dress like a whore.

Go figure........................................

8. I have a very annoying neighbor
the other day he made an offer on the house across the street. the woman owner is close to foreclosure, he offered her one half what she paid for it two years ago. here's his comment - "that f'n house smells like a dirty whore who hasn't bathed in a year". I asked him how the hell he knew what that smelled like and was it the stink men left on her.

he was gobstruck by my response.

i loved it.

Sorry but when my Female Shura on DOMO sees some female our mining or some such task in her underwear. She just can't help thing what a xxxxx. Although probably someone else thinks the same of her for the usual exposed gape in the armor around her tail. It really can be quite embarrassing.

15. nothing and everything
Nothing is wrong with trying to not be offensive, what I don't like is the accusation (mainly from the right) that to be PC is somehow looking to find offense, or worse that you have to toe the party line, so to speak.

I don't like it when the accusation is used as a counter-attack when I tell someone that they just said something racist or what have you because it completely negates it in their mind; suddenly the discussion is not them being an ass, but me being "too sensitive" about something, and is often followed quickly by "lighten up" or similar. I am very light-hearted and easy going person, and this is just far too often encountered from ditto-heads and I am sick of it in much the same way I am sick of the word "liberal" being used by them as an insult.
