It was Patrick Murphy of PA.
He was speaking today at the PA Biotech Center in Doylestown to a forum of start up biotech executives and entrepreneurs.
When he was introduced it was announced that tea would not be served with lunch, since the congressman was sure to be tired of teabaggers. Yes, that was actually said.
He identified himself as a "blue dog" Democrat, which I was surprised to learn, is actual a formal group with formal membership with 61 members.
According to his speech, his wife is a Republican and he insists on strong defense and that all new programs, including healthcare, be "revenue neutral."
A poll was taken by a show of hands, asking how many people in the audience favor a "public option." Surprisingly, given the nature of the audience, a slight majority (myself included) clearly favored the "public option."
I spoke to the Congressman briefly about science education, and he gave me his card and the name of his assistant who I should contact if I wanted to do more.
The card is really cool, embossed gold letters.
This is the third congressman with whom I have spoken. The longest conversation I have had with a congress person is with Rush Holt, my congressman.
Murphy seems like a really nice guy. I can't say I agree with him on everything, but he's definitely a good man.
I can't say that I agree with my own Congressman, Holt, on everything, but I admire him all the same.
