Today's College Football Thread
There is only one game between ranked teams today (Nebraska at Virginia Tech), but there are some interesting storylines elsewhere: Texas against Texas Tech, Florida State at BYU, Tennessee at Florida, Utah at Oregon, USC at Washington, and so on.

My Oklahoma Sooners take on Tulsa :woohoo:

So who does your team play today? What games are you looking forward to?

1. Arizona St vs UL Monroe!!
:bounce:

I can't wait to see more of #7 Vontaze Burfict :bounce:

I'm watching Cal vs Minnesota but this weekend is hard to get excited about any paticular games other then ASU. I would like to see Iowa crush Arizona though.

Next week should be a fun one for you :toast:

"I'm watching Cal vs Minnesota but this weekend is hard to get excited about any paticular games other then ASU. I would like to see Iowa crush Arizona though."

I hear ya. Not a lot of great games, at least on paper. And most of the early games aren't looking competitive. I was watching Cal-Minnesota too, but only until it was clear it was going to be a blowout (which didn't take long ;))

5. Coming off a bye week as well
I just want to see the receivers catch some passes, they dropped like 3 touchdown passes against Idaho St, then they'll be ready for Georgia. I'm already sold on Vontaze Burfict though. I'm aware OU played Idaho St, did you see the shot Burfict layed out on their QB? Very similar to the picture I posted.

but do keep in mind that the AFA has for the past several years been an integral part of the fundie-industrial complex that is literally hell-bent on turning America into an Iranian-style theocracy.

Enjoy the game! :-)

At any rate, they have produced some great officers that have contributed a lot to society.

"Sully" Sullenberger ("Miracle on the Hudson" fame)

Michael Weinstein (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Weinstein) who has done a lot to stop/stem the fundie movement in the military (see link)

Alonzo Babers (Olympic gold medalist)

T. Allen McArtor (former administrator of the FAA)

Numerous astronauts, scholars, politicians, authors, etc., etc.

Never good to paint anything/anyone with too broad of a brush!

Have a great day.

I guess the way I look at it is that the institution has done a lot of good (yours as well as mine), and even when it's not functioning the way you would like, you hope that things can change in the future.

The Air Force Academy walks a fine line. Since it's publicly funded, the church/state issue is a big one. I wonder what it will take before enough people decide a line has been crossed.

84. There's more to knowing how to cook something than simply knowing *what* the ingredients are...
There's how *much* of each ingredient, and *what step* the ingredient goes in at, for example.

A human poll putting Cal at 8 could result in a BCS rank of anywhere between 3 and 15. (Just approximate - i.e. made up - numbers, since the BCS people aren't nice enough to give us the BCS recipe - but you get the gist.)

Was that the greatest game next to the Hurricanes win, or WHAT?

We were sitting in DH's truck in the grocery store parking lot, listening to the last minute or so of the game. Not only were there people all over the parking lot doing the same thing, there was a spontaneous eruption of folks that wanted to get out of their cars to scream and yell when time ran out!

The last time people ran out onto the field when the game was over was twenty years ago, too!

BARK FOR THE SARK! I LOVE that guy!

I missed most of the game, unfortunately, but I saw that highlight several times. From what I saw, Landry Jones looked good, the line looked much better, and the defense looked solid. :) Now we get a week off before the Miami game. :woohoo:

This Texas vs. Tech game has been good so far -- Tech's offense looked really good on that first drive, but penalties are killing them.

Of course one always has to take good performances against inferior teams with a grain of salt, but you can learn a lot about how your team can potentially play.

I think the big thing for OU was that the o-line looked more coherent as a unit. Even in the game last week they were losing ground off the snap, and that was against a second-tier team at best. They must have worked hard in practice this week. They looked different, leagues better than they looked against BYU.

Jones will be fine if he can get some protection. The six touchdown's is being a wee bit overdone because of the way the offense was being run, but it's still an accomplishment. OU's defense is suffocating, so if they can stay healthy, I think the rest of the season will be fine.

At this point, I'm actually a bit more worried about Miami, which I think is heavily underrated, than Texas. I think OU's defense can handle McCoy. The question there will be whether the offense can handle Texas's defense. That could well be a very low scoring game, or at least one that ends up hinging on a big play on special teams or defense making the difference.

Miami ... they look tough on both sides of the ball.

81. I agree about Miami
they are going to be very tough. I do feel like we match up well in the sense that their defense can get a bit sloppy, whereas our defense should be better than either of the two they've faced. But they look good, no doubt about it. And after last year's game I'm sure they'll be ready.

I'm not sure what to think about Texas. They've looked pretty pedestrian at times, but the last few years they've always managed to get everything clicking for the OU-Texas game (the same way, in the first half of the decade, OU always seemed to do). In the second half tonight they looked like they were developing a running game. But Texas Tech moved the ball very well on them at times, and I'm sure our staff can learn from that.

Anyways I'm rooting for them. They've been my favorite team out of the Big 12 South for years.

67. Missouri won!
And I was checking the bags of those wanting to get into the stadium. Saw about a total quarter of the game after my gate closed for a while, and it was good. Can't wait until the Nebraska game coming up soon. I'll probably be watching from the grass hill during that one, though.

77. Touchdown, Texas!
17-3 over Texas Tech, although the Longhorns have looked pretty lackluster all night. Texas A&M is also doing pretty well this evening, 38-17 over Utah St.
