1. If you can type well, medical transcription.
You have to take some courses, if you have no medical background, to get hold of the terminology, but you can definitely do it from home, it's very legitimate and pays pretty well.

I do website maintenance for a company. They send me product updates or new products, and I keep the information current. I got this through a friend in the company, so I don't know how one might get it on their own.

Good luck! It's the only way to go. I can work from anywhere I can get an internet connection, which is perfect for me.

And then you could always moderate a busy website. Oh, you said "money making opportunities"?

2. Down here they have been outsourcing the medical transcription.
I kid you not.

4. In some cases, that might not be such a bad idea.
Doctors tend to talk really, really fast when they are dictating, and some transcriptionists complain that between the accent of some docs and the speed, they just can't get it.

Perhaps if someone who better understands the accent is assigned those, it would be better?

5. For some physicians that is a good thing.
The problem is, they out source all work - the people I know that made a good living off of medical transcription couldn't match, let alone beat the per page bids.

I don't know of one independent medical transcriptionist that survived the outsourcing.

7. Very much so.
I personally know of a big firm that hires "contingency workers" who work from home for contracting firms/companies.

8. When I lived in rural West Virginia, a young neighbor of mine did (and still does) . . .
. . . payroll and other accounting work for small local companies as well as
for companies in Ohio, Florida, Nevada, California, etc.
