I'll say a prayer to St. Geddy tonight:

You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill.
I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose to listen to Rush, 'cause they're way better than the Beastie Boys.

I speak from ingorance. As it is I have this crazy day job that sticks me in a different country just about every day, and I have heard precious little new stuff in the last 20 years, and could identify even less of it. Even so, it's better than a desk job, which would kill me by boredom. (He writes, coming to you live and in color from beautiful downtown Brussels, and have to be in Paris in 12 hours and in northern Germany 15 hours after that--get the idea?)

Thom Yorke rightly deserves a "musical genius" nomination.

46. Creep is actually my least favorite Radiohead song.
When it comes to my favorite bands, I tend to dislike their best known song. I don't know why, perhaps because they are always overplayed and you know there are better songs by the band that don't get that radio play.

Hence, I'm not a fan of "Creep", nor am I fan of "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" by the Pumpkins, nor am I a fan of "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails.

49. I've heard that about Radiohead fans...
...and about Radiohead the band, for that matter, that none of them are too fond of that song.

Something about how it wasn't really representative of their sound.

Same sort of thing happened to Extreme with the song More Than Words. But I don't think they ever recovered from that first mega-hit, whereas Radiohead recovered rather nicely.

I like Coldplay. I saw them live once and loved it; I still listen to A Rush of Blood to the Head and I still watch their live DVD from time to time. They are an enjoyable Britpop band.

But Thom Yorke is an absolute genius, and the talent surrounding him (Selway/O'Brien/Greenwood/Greenwood) is a creative juggernaut. Seriously, they have masterpieces in THREE DIFFERENT GENRES. When I first heard Kid A, I said to myself "Is there anything this band can't do?" They are the only band this generation that has begged that question from me.

Not to mention, Coldplay have tried to imitate them on several occasions.

My musical tastes are a little out there. This stuff doesn't hit me at all. To each their own though, and that's why we have a multitude of musical choices. There's something for everyone, and if any older person tells you that there's no good music anymore feel free to kick them squarely in the nuts, because there's never been more choices and more ways to get the music. If someone can't find anything to fit their tastes they simply aren't looking.

66. I respect the fact that others have different taste in music...
I rarely ever mock the music that people listen to. Taste varies.

Radiohead has helped me and continues to help me get through some very rough times in my life.

Some consider my musical tastes "out there". I think they are relatively mainstream.

67. All I can say is that my mockery is good natured.
I make fun my own music all the time. Look at this pic and tell me it isn't mock worthy...

Come on...you know you want to make a joke about that...and if you do I'll laugh along with you. ;)

I encourage people to listen to whatever floats their boat, be it Radiohead or Yanni or Cannibal Corpse, regardless of what others think about it. Music helps a lot of us get through the day. I'd kill myself without it, and I'm not joking. I've had many days where music is the ONLY thing that makes me want to see tomorrow. Another cool CD might come out, and I wouldn't want to miss it!

And for the record, I have no problems with Radiohead, and have mucho respect for some of what they do and say. The free download thing was awesome of them, and I see more and more bands following suit, or even telling people to pay what they want for a CD. I don't consider them mainstream as much for that attitude as for the music, which is relatively mainstream compared to the stuff I'm into (though not even close to mainstream compared to say Janet Jackson or Britteny Spears). I wish more bands with their popularity had their attitude.
