Moving Van Bidding Wars
Anyone moving and planning on the "do-it-yourself" move? I discovered this about 4 moves ago, and it's worked like a charm. I'll throw this out there in case you have a move coming up.
First, I'll call Ryder and give them the specifics of the move and get a price, at which point I tell them I'll get back to them after I check with U-Haul. Then I call U-Haul and get a price. If it's higher I tell them Ryder's price. They happily and promptly undercut Ryder. Then I call Ryder again and tell them of the developments at the orange guys. They will undercut the orange guys. Then it's back to U-Haul for another price-cut. I've never gotten the actual price to drop after this reduction, but what will happen is they'll add miles and/or days instead to the last low bid. I've then let them bid on that. It's like an auction, and it works really well. Saved $95 over the original estimate and got the truck for 3 extra days once.

Happy Motoring! :hi:
