1. Get a dual deck VHS & DVD - most of them dub

Mine lets you put in a blank DVD and it will just copy the VHS to it. That should be a pretty standard feature now.

4. I have a dvd recorder which I simply inputed my vcr into it.

This is for tapes which you have recorded yourself and not prerecorded ones which likely have copyguard on them. I have dubbed vhs tapes as well as 8mm home movies. Dvd recorders are inexpensive and easy to use and just as vcrs they can be used to record tv programs also.

2. I'm using Pinnacle Instant DVD Recorder,

DVD Shrink 3.2 and Nero Burning ROM. Not the easiest, but it's free.
