DUers who say they do not like beer - read this please

Please try a Belgian Style Beer.

You will probably like this - its a style that wins over many.

I just had a beer Dieu du Ciel Rigor Mortis Abt. that would make anyone reading this swoon.

It is quite possibly the perfect beer

Notes of dried fruit, smoke and tannin

There are many others, depending on your style of drink

Chimay makes three beers that could satisfy any drinker's needs

Chimay Bleu, Chimay Rouge or Chimay Blanc - one of those should have some appeal to you

Just try :)

11. Hoegaarden gets around
Not really the same style of beer mentioned, but a nice Belgian White ale all the same. Trader Joe's at least used to sell Wittekerke, which is another great one - six packs of cans even - and cheap!

26. it most certainly is
Try a few more. I get in big arguments with my brother about what the best ones are. They're all similar in a way, but within that area there are big differences. I would say that Hoegaarden, compared to blue moon, is less spicy but more citrusy, if that makes any sense.

5. I'm sure to a beer drinker, it's delightful...
but I'm also among the non-alcohol crew about 99.5% of the time. Just something about that whiff of alcohol smell turns me off.

To me, it's a little like someone saying "oh, this cigar is so good, even if you don't like cigars" -- not a value judgement of "sin" or anything -- just that the nicest, smoothest cigar in the world has the same lack of appeal to me as a cheap stogie: none.

7. Since winter beer season will soon be with us, I have another suggestion for the list
Edited on Sun Oct-04-09 08:28 PM by Sebastian Doyle
Samuel Adams Cranberry Lambic. Not sure how widely available it is, since I haven't seen it around here in years (apart from being mixed in with the Sam Adams Holiday sampler cases they sell at Costco)

Samuel Adams® Cranberry Lambic is a fruit beer that draws its flavor not just from the cranberries it is brewed with, but also from the unique fermentation character imparted by the rare wild yeast strain. The result is a flavor rich in fruitiness and reminiscent of cranberries and bananas, cloves and nutmeg. The yeast fermentation also will create a slight sourness on the sides of the palate, a signature of the original Lambic style which, with the subtle cereal note from the wheat malt, remind its drinker that, as fruity a beer as this is, it is still a beer.

Not something I'd drink every day, but it goes great with turkey!

9. I've never seen the point in drinking beer.
No matter what it always sucks. I have a feeling that most beer drinkers really don't like the taste of beer much either. If they did, non alcoholic beer would actually sell. Beer drinkers just like the fact that beer is cheap and easy to pace yourself with.

Hard alcohol though, that's for people that know how to drink.

23. For me the point of drinking beer was
that hard liquor always made me sick. I've also never tasted a hard liquor that I liked. However, I could drink 15 beers in a relatively short amount of time, not get sick, and have a really good drunk going.

Of course, consuming that amount of alcohol is bad for you no matter the source. I don't drink at all now days.

Have you ever seen a non-alcoholic liquor? The fact that non-alcoholic beer even exists says more about beer's drinkability.

32. That is ridiculous
I like the taste of beer. Not all beer, but many. Non-alcoholic beer doesn't actually taste anything like real beer; that's why it doesn't sell. The trick is to stay away from crappy American beer like Bud and Miller. That does suck. In general, yellow beer is inferior - go for something darker.

My current favorite is Duchy Originals Ale.

I hate hard alcohol. Might as well just open up a bottle of Scope and drink that.

I love the taste of certain beers, mostly more expensive ones. I'm a fan of dark (golden to black) beers.

I didn't drink alcohol, at all, till I was 23. Needless to say, I missed "the beer years". I usually have a couple of sips and decide I've had enough. (I'd rather have a martini!)

It would be nice to fit in somewhat; I'll definitely have to try your Belgian Style beer.

Thanks for the suggestion! :woohoo:

18. Anything's better than an American beer.
Okay, there are exceptions. The brews that Sam Adams (the Boston Beer Company) makes, for example, as well as the numerous offerings from microbreweries across the country.

But (and I don't expect to get much of an argument here) the mass produced "beers" from Budweiser, Miller, ad nauseam are pond scum. To the DUers who say they can't stand the taste of beer, I'll bet you've only tasted these poor substitutes.

Sipping a well-crafted beer is like tasting heaven.

45. Yup. Might as while knife a gasoline drum,
And then drink what comes out of that. I can stand the taste of those beers, but I don't drink them because they're unenjoyable. Plus, the crappy "light" stuff that passes as beer is in fact just like drinking scummy pond water after an oil disaster. Yummy.

19. The first beer I liked I drank in a bar in Belgium.
It was eye-opening, and made me realize that I'd never had beer before. I liked it so much I went out and got into a street brawl over a girl with some American brats whose daddies worked for NATO while a crowd of Belgians laughed at us from balconies and bars, after trying to photograph a hooker through a brothel window. We scattered moments before the cops arrived, and when my group of three were stopped two streets over a few minutes later, we just kept speaking in English until the cops got annoyed and motioned for us to go home.

Beer. Beer. BEER!

...like Chimay Red, this is also a dubbel, but for much less.

Ommegang is brewer from Cooperstown NY that brews excellent Belgian-style ales that cost between a third to a half less than ales like Chimay or Duvel that are actually from Belgium.

I just don't like any real degree of bitter or bland. My wife is big on the Chimay's. And they do not immediately "offend" my palate as many forms of beer do. But while there are beers that are not really "Bad", they still have little to recomend them.

I will never understand the drive for beer. Ohhh.... its alcoholic and costs 4 times as much as a sprite and doesn't have refills at the bar, I must have it...
