KISS - new CD, tour, on Letterman tongiht, & ROFL @ a drunk Ace & pissed Gene w/ Tom Snyder from '79
Edited on Tue Oct-06-09 10:59 PM by Skip Intro

Yeah, yeah, they suck, 35 years later. But I've gotten into many of their songs over the years - I mean, God of Thunder, come on, and I've seen a few awesome shows they put on, and while Ace and Peter aren't with them anymore, I'd be willing to bet the new cd debuts at #1 this week. Btw, they're on Letterman tonight.

But I recently came across this short clip of a clearly drunk, and funny, Ace, and a clearly irritated Gene, from the old Tomorrow show with Tom Snyder from 79. It's only a minute long, but the look on Gene's face, rofl...

1. Thayer & Singer suck A** for wearing Ace & Peter's makeup
Edited on Tue Oct-06-09 11:10 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
Yeah, it's all about Simmons & Stanley, and God knows Thayer and Singer probably don't have a single backbone between the two of them to say "no," but they should have come up with some new makeup. Vinnie Vincent did it, Eric Carr did it, Thayer and Singer are whores.

That is all.

2. I agree. There is only one Ace.
And Peter, but especially Ace. From what I've heard, Tommy mimics Ace's style as well. I mean, wtf?

5. The evidence is on this DVD...

...to be 100% fair, Singer got screwed when he and Bruce Kulick got booted to make room for the "reunion," so I have more of an issue with Thayer. Ace was / is a symbol of sorts to many headbanging suburban kids from the 70s and deserves respect...something which Gene and Paul know nothing about.

3. I forgot to mention KISS in the guilty pleasures music thread.
I like 'em and few bands get more grief than KISS. Black Diamond, Detroit Rock City, 100,000 Years, Let Me Go, Shock Me and many others are great rockers and they had some good ballads too like Hard Luck Woman. I also like how they covered a few early rock-n-roll songs like And then she Kissed me and Peter's Tossin' and Turnin'.

4. I saw Kiss when I had no idea who they were
It was at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, I think in 1975. We had gone to see T-Rex backed up by UFO. None of us had any clue who the headliner was.

After that night I didn't care much for Kiss or their music, but at that time it was really something. Being stoned and not knowing what to expect on stage after a pretty good show by Marc Bolan of T-Rex was probably the best way possible to see Kiss and their act.

6. I thought I was hallucinating tonight when I saw them.
Either that, or someone had put me in the "wayback" machine. I think I smell the stink of desperation.

7. Frehley rules.
He's awesome. The current tools trying to carry the Criss and Frehley personas can suck it.

8. I saw the Detroit Rock City tour where they crashed a car on stage.
Poor Bob Seger had to open. I've also worked with these guys a couple of times over the years and they were always a pain in my ass. But hey, Kiss is Kiss right?

If three people ask me I'll tell my Kiss and Gene Simmons story.

17. Okay, the story...
I was working at a strip club at the time, the club and the city here shall remain nameless, and we got a call from Kiss' road manager that they were coming to town and they were looking for strippers that wanted to dance on stage and be in a Kiss video. Realize, this was in 92, the time of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, not a lot of the women were listening to Kiss and it was like pulling teeth to get any of them to go.

The main question, the typical question was: "How much do I get paid?" Volunteerism, especially when it comes to doing what they normally get paid for, is not high on a strippers list of priorities. With the pay scale being zero, I was able to wrangle 4 strippers to go and one of them was my girlfriend who owed me big at the time.

Long story short, all went pretty good. The girls danced on stage, the hometown crowd loved them and back stage the drinks were flowing pretty good. There was a film crew running around and the road manager told me they were filming a video and I was busy doing everything I could to make sure the strippers were not too drunk when the show ended and the four very loud, very smelly middle aged men in Kiss make-up came into the cavernous green room most of the people had gathered in. The road manager asked me if the girls would mind taking a couple of pictures with the guys. Long story short, if that's possible at this point, Gene Simmons made the mistake of touching China's ass while the guy was filming.

No one touches China's ass. In two seconds my girlfriend and China had Gene on the floor and China's 5 inch heel was poised just an inch or so from Genes pancaked forehead. The room got very quiet.

Police came, charges were threatened on both sides and Gene gave China two hundred dollars for touching her ass. The funniest part, when they had Gene on the floor, he cried like a girl, begging China not to hit him.

If you can get ahold of the video, Kiss Konfidential, you can see everything that happened right up to the point Gene Simmons was foolish enough to put his hand where it didn't belong.

That is my Kiss story.

14. Kiss = teletubbies
OK for children but not adults. Saw them when I was a kid back in 77 and that was enough for a lifetime.

15. KISS are hilarious.
I laughed my way through their entire show back in 2000. Appreciating KISS fully, as with Tenacious D, requires the ability to hold two thoughts simultaneously--that this band rocks while being total cheesy self-parody.
