That would have been a horrible surprise had I not recently resigned.
I get mailings from Non-profit Job Market (
http://www.nonprofitjobmarket.org) and I saw my own position listed today. That was kind of wild.
I've been here for 3 1/2 years. I used to live in the neighborhood, but for 2 1/2 years I've been doing the most insane commute. There are not loads of Director-level non-profit development positions in Long Island. I love my current organization and all the people. And I love this community. But seriously, I only see my kid on weekends. It's just wrong. So when I saw a Director of Development position available for a non-profit less than 4 miles from my house, with a mission that has personal meeting for me, I had to check it out.
Turns out, it's an amazing organization full of great people with a strong reputation. We came to most agreeable terms and I start November 2nd.
My current organization is huge and I'm in a position where we couldn't just inform everyone with a mass email--many people had to be contacted personally before a general announcement could be made. And because we have had articles in the press that have been discussed here, many colleagues are aware of this site, so there was a chance the news could have leaked had I more openly blabbed here.
But it's out now. I'm so excited. I'm ensconced in transition work and will have long hours up to the final day. But thanks so much for the good vibes when I asked you for them prior to one of my interviews.
It's nice to be back at DU.
