Unexpected guests. Really tacky. A small rant.

We're having a small dinner party tonight.
4 couples.
Miz t. does GORGEOUS table settings and started on this one Wednesday.
It looks like something out of Gourmet magazine.
(She's a helluva cook, too.)

Our 4' square dining table converts to a round one that seats 8 comfortably.
Too tight for 10.

This afternoon one friend called and told us that they had unexpected house guests from Oklahoma for the week end.
We're on the Alabama gulf coast.
She was VERY apologetic.
"They just showed up. We had no idea they were coming. I REALLY hate to do this at the last minute, but I guess we'll have to cancel and entertain them.
I can't just go off and leave them."
(I could have.:grr:)

Miz t. told her to bring them.
Plenty of food and we can always make room for a couple more.
She is the consummate hostess.

So...we scurried around and took two places away from the table and set up another small table that seats four.
And Miz t. figured out how to stretch way plentiful food for 8 to look way plentiful for 10.
I will be slicing the pork tenderloin (see post about Apple Smoked Bacon Pork Tenderloin) VERY thinly.

Pisses. Me. Off.

I've met these people before and I don't even like them.
Right wingers.
And not real bright.
I guess that's redundant.

would have said "bring them", and although you are not too fond of this couple, I know that fun will be had by all. My motto is always take the high road. In the end, if nothing else, you can feel good about yourself.

and tell them you didn't want to force them to drink any of that nasty, socialized clean water from the socialist municipal water system.

As is the housing they are enjoying for the weekend, because you and your friends don't mind to have the collective come together and occasionally offer compassionate aid to those who are obviously too poor even to own a phone.

You guys are good hosts for inviting the guests to come along - it's a good high road to take.

I do hope you have fun, and that the rightwingers don't ruin it. Though with Obama just winning the Nobel, there's a good chance that they'll feel the need to comment on that and drop a giant rightwing turd (is there any other kind of turd?) in the punch bowl.

they called to cancel? They had something unexpected come up, they called your home to cancel, your wife invited the whole gang over, but it's the people who called who are tacky? What am I missing?

Yeah, I'd say it was pretty darn tacky to just show up at someone's place unannounced and uninvited.
