I am a petty asshole.

I'm currently upset about something that I am totally aware is petty and stupid.

My high school graduation ceremony was today (yes, Canadian schools are weird and have them in the fall). During this time, awards, including subject awards, are given.

I got 100 in writer's craft last year, as did another girl in my class. Subject awards can be given to two or three people if there is a tie. However, only she got the award.

She is a super-genius, and recieved at least 3 other awards. She has always seemingly cruised through school.

I have a learning disability, and my senior year was very tough for me. I was having panic attacks 2-3 times a week, and really did have to work for that mark.

It's not easy being bloody incompetent at most things, and never getting recognized for what you are good at. I'm not saying the other girl wasn't deserving....I only wish I could have shared the award with her.

I know I'm probably being stupid right now. But this really hurts. Especially since my writer's craft teacher was my favorite teacher in all of high school, and always told me what a great writer I was.

Can you point it out to the teacher? I know the ceremony's over, but maybe you can still get the award. Would look good on a transcript.

You worked hard, put a lot of yourself into writing and felt you deserved better, and probably did.
First, as a published writer, I urge you to continue to write with all the passion you care to give it, and don't give it up - I'll bet you love it.

Second, writing can be a thankless, terribly lonely job and it's best done by those who really love the process.

I wish you every success, and I hope you use this experience in your future work.
