3. As a person who just came out of teenagehood...
Run for the hills.

4. My daughter is 16. She has her moments, but
so far so good. It's my job to make sure she has her priorities straight and that she's focused on schoolwork and chooses her friends wisely. The more responsibility and maturity she displays, the more independence and freedom I've given her. The teenage years are challenging and there are plenty of melt-downs, but on balance it hasn't been bad. I think infancy and the terrible twos were way more difficult.

6. Remain calm, do your best
That's all you can do. BTW, it goes by pretty quick. Watch out for the Bad boys. Teen angels love them, but some genuinely are bad news. Most are just angst ridden jackanapes but a few are genuine psychos. Learn to tell the difference. It's a valuable skill. I forget if you are M or F but if you're a woman, trust your intuition. If you're a man, trust your wife's intuitions. Worry more about paying for post high school education and the inevitable wedding.

7. Not only this
but some friends will genuinely bring the kid down. Some will offer the kid valuable learning opportunities in a somewhat safe environment.

Telling which kid is which... hard to say.

8. Easy Breezy....

My daughter just turned 14. Actually, middle school was a nightmare. 7th was awful. 8th was bad. 9th is turning out to be okay thus far.

I have a 22 year old son, and he was a cake walk. They are all different.

Hang in and hang on!

9. It'll be a breeze, no worries at all. At most, maybe 1826 rough days...
How was the journey in the Sierra?

10. Only 1826.. Whew..
I have been battling gallbladder pancreatitis issues this last month so I did not go. I've been relying on the V.A. but my surgery consult with them is not till the end of the month. Today I went to my wife's Doctor and she scheduled a catscan for Friday. Hopefully between the V.A. and my HMO insurance I can get this taken care of soon.

11. Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. Best of luck getting it straightened out
And truly, the next five years may not be that bleak. My interaction with young people is generally right after they've stopped being teenagers, but it's clear that a lot of them were pretty worthwhile people in that 13-18 period. I suspect the good parents reap what they sow, so I'm pretty sure you and Allie will hit the jackpot...
