Zombie film 'will beat Passion'
A remake of cult hit Dawn of the Dead is tipped to take The Passion of the Christ's top US box office spot in a cinematic battle of good versus evil. Mel Gibson's religious film has earned more than $273m (£149m) while topping the US chart for three weeks.

But industry journal Hollywood Reporter predicts a 40% decline in Passion audiences, which would enable Dawn of the Dead to debut at number one.

The remake of the 1978 zombie classic is directed by newcomer Zack Snyder. It reprises George Romero's original in which a handful of embattled survivors were trapped in a shopping mall surrounded by hungry zombies. Dawn of the Dead follows last year's remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which topped the US chart to take $28m (£15m) in its opening weekend.

8. hey now, jesus has a lot in common with Zombies
except for all that killing and eating of human flesh stuff, of course, but think about it. 1:By the end of the movie, they both look like crap from being beaten and the like. 2:both are killed, but rise from the grave.

3. It would be great if the grossest film of the year beat out the most pious
"They're coming to get you, Mel!"

Bright side, perhaps in a year or two, a face-off movie ala "Freddy vs. Jason" or "Aliens vs. Predator."

"Jesus, we've got to barricade ourselves back in your crypt! The zombies will never be able to move that boulder!"
"No, my son, I'm a carpenter, I say we board up the manger and stand our ground."

6. "the dead will rise"
Maybe the two films can combine their marketing budgets and use the same tag line.

7. Well the bible did say
That the dead woke and walked about the cities during the time Jesus was dead. Only fitting that the dead arise after his time in the theater.

11. A story of self-sacrifice in a universal battle between good and evil...
Movie review: It's a new (and bloodier) morning for Living Dead-heads
Colin Covert, Star Tribune

After the unprecedented success of "The Passion of the Christ," it might be time to rethink the standards we apply to gruesome, appallingly violent films. There is enough hemoglobin in "Dawn of the Dead" to fill Lake Michigan, but since it's a story of self-sacrifice in a universal battle between good and evil, I suppose we must give it a pass.
