From Netflix, I have "Trick ur Treat" & "Drag Me to Hell" to watch this weekend...

Netflix's library of horror films is quite large, though many of the recent movies (ones that go right to DVD) are downright awful...But they have the 80's horror films as well as a huge selection of foreign films...I've been renting alot of Peter Cushing films lately..

Hearing alot of good things about "Paranormal Activity", so I can't wait to see that one...

Did go to theatre to see "Halloween 2", $11.25 for that, :banghead: It was over the top brutal & the story was rather lame...I'm not a Rob Zombie fan either, so perhaps I'm more biased than others...

1. This movie isn't gross out horror but I like it:
Shadow of the Vampire

Willem Dafoe is awesome as the vampire.

4. Some old and new ones
An excellent Cushing film is Dr. Terror's House of Horrors.
A good, fairly recent vampire title is Let the Right One In and for a well done werewolf story try Dog Soldiers.
A really good older film that is nonetheless very creepy is Night of the Demon. No gore or special effects, except for the scene tacked onto the end by the studio. It has a plot device similar to the one in Drag Me to Hell.

7. Thank you
I'll have to check out that Cushing film you mentioned, have not seen that one...

Night of the Demon, is that the one where people started becoming possessed one by one in the movie theatre?...Think that was an mid-80's horror film, (if it's the same one I'm thinking about)...

9. "Night of the Demon" is a 1957 British film

The poster at the link is far more sensational than the film itself but I swear it will creep you out. After watching it, you will not want to accept a piece of paper from another person. It's also interesting because the story is inspired by the activities of occultist Alastair Crowley.

6. The Hills Have Eyes (1977) and Night of the Comet
I can't believe I never saw "The Hills...." when it first came out. It was on display at the library.

10. A few good low budget ones over the last few years.

The Descent- spelunkers descend into a cave and... well I won't give you any spoilers. But there's an early Lovecraft short story with an identical plot. There's some ridiculous bits that can't suspend disbelief. But they're forgettable and mostly it's an enjoyable film. Very good use of set design and lighting to invoke claustrophobia.

Wind Chill- A couple of college students on their way home for the holidays get stuck in the snow on a lone haunted road. Some horror cliches but some unexpectedly good chills as well. Strong female lead. Better than your average horror film.

Quarantine- zombie-esque horror/action about a film crew following a paramedic crew as it responds to a call at an apartment building. Get stuck inside in an emergency quarantine. An incredibly well paced, wonderfully shot film. Very clever. Not the scariest horror film, but so well made it stays entertaining.

The Orphange- A Spanish film. A family moves into an old haunted house that used to be an Orphanage. Not a great movie but some OK scares and some good suspense. I could take it or leave it but I think it's worth a watch.

Splinter- A good fast paced gore film. A couple is carjacked by a strange couple of crooks who are sick with a strange disease. It's better than it sounds.

The Mist- A decent adaptation of a good Stephen King story, which was also a basis for the video game series Half Life. A crowd of strangers is stuck in a supermarket when a scientific experiment goes horribly awry and unleashes strange creatures from an alternate dimension.
