It was the perfect day for a ride, but I should let automobile drivers know this...
Edited on Sat Oct-17-09 03:34 PM by Haole Girl
If you see someone on a motorcycle who looks like they are struggling a bit to start out from a steep hill, at a stop sign, please don't take advantage of their momentary delay & jump in front of them.

No worries, I am unharmed. It was actually a bit of a thrill. :-)

Thank you for your attention.

1. It's always a good day for a ride. Thursday, a perfectly perfect
day, I went to, and around central Los Angeles, and then Philippe's for lunch. The manager there got his motorcycle from the same dealer in Orange county as did I, so we always compare notes.
He rode to work, from Orange county Wendesday, in the rain.
He rides all that way every day, rain or shine. Therefore ...

5. Yeah, he's the manager at Philippe's the famous french dip
sandwich place at Main & Ord, by the train station.
Lives in Orange county.
But do remember, his motorcycle is a BMW.
It takes, well it takes nerves.
Of course someone pulled in front of her. On a motorcycle, that happens about what H Girl, 3 times a day?
It happens a lot. You dodge death every few miles.

6. Besides...
It's much easier to take advantage and jump them after dinner and a bottle of wine.

7. It's a sad fact of life for us bikers
After 30 years and somewhere north of 200k miles on street bikes I can tell you this. There are people in cars that are raging assholes that don't give a damn about anybody on two wheels. If you're going to ride, you just have to do your best to avoid them and not wind up a greasy spot on the pavement. I've got a few scars from the times I was unsuccessful in avoiding them, but that's never stopped me from getting back on and riding.

Enjoy the ride, the rest is bullshit. :hi:

8. I witnessed a horrible motorcycle/SUV collision just last Friday.
I was making a right turn off of a busy four lane road. There was a Ford Explorer making a left turn onto the busy road. As I was about half way through making my right turn the driver of the Explorer proceeded into the intersection. There must have been a motorcycle in my blind spot that the driver of the Explorer didn't see (I didn't know he was there either). I heard a crunch and looked in my rear view mirror and to my horror saw a riderless motorcycle impaled on the left front fender of the Explorer. I jumped out of my vehicle and saw the rider of the motorcycle lying on the other side of the Explorer. He must have gone right over the hood. I called 911. My son was with me and we were both really shaken up. The driver of the Explorer was at fault. This really scared me because in this situation I would have probably done the same thing. He started making his left turn as soon as it was clear I was turning onto the same side street. He should have waited until I was clear of the intersection, but I can see how I might have done the same thing. I will forever wait because I don't want to be the guy who turns in front of a motorcycle that I didn't see.

The rider was not wearing a helmet. I don't know for sure what his condition was after the ambulance took him. He was awake and aware of his surroundings after the collision. The whole incident scared the crap out of me.
