"Heroes" fans check in. Help me out.
I've been watching the series on Netflix streaming (which I am a HUGE fan of the service by the way, I watch it on TVs, laptops, my PC, wherever I am in the house via my network). Loved the first season, some of the better TV I've seen recently (well except for the Ali Larter story line, even though she is hot).

Second, strike shortened season, meh.

Third season is very long, the first part of it seemed to have crappy writing with every other line being stupid post 9/11 "we did it to keep you SAFE" dialogue.

Now I'm getting into the second part of season 3 (VOLUME 4) where they start off rounding up the heroes for the Gitmo treatment, and suddenly the show kicks ass again. But going through the early part of season 3 just felt like work.

Is the show back to decent quality? I've felt like I've just been going through it out of a sense of obligation for a while but I'm having fun watching it again.

Also, I must not have been watching carefully enough, but when and why did Hiro's buddy Ando suddenly start speaking fluent English?

1. No the new season sucks
The end of the 3rd season was pretty good for a crappy start the season got but so far I'm not feelin the new season. This magic carnival thing doesnt feel very interesting.

2. It's been okay.
I'd put it right in line with the second half of season 3, which I thought was merely fair.

It's a very consistently mediocre show. Watchable, but pretty much a niche program for comic book nerds and fans of lightweight sci-fi.

3. The new season has been pretty watchable.
I agree with your opinions on all the other seasons. First was GREAT, second was pretty terrible, third was bad but got better at the end. This season so far has been trying to harken back to season one. More character development and less crazy plot twists and crap.

4. I don't get what the fucking carnie weirdos have to do with anything.
That skinhead Danko and his band of roving nazi hero-hunters made more sense than these carnie idiots.

And is the deaf woman who sees tracers without acid gonna be hot for Peter or Hiro?

8. The show had such potential during and right after season one but
show runner and head writer Tim Kring is just not that good a writer IMO. Pretty much everywhere I read online about the problems with Heroes is that instead the writer of season one ep 17 "Company Man", season two ep 20 "Cold Snap" and showtime show Dead Like Me creator Bryan Fuller should be show runner and head writer. But Kring is still doing it so no, I don't think it's much better and probably won't be unfortunately. The well written shows these days to me are LOST, Caprica has potential, Breaking Bad, Entourage, Dexter, and much of Dollhouse. Throw some of those or some classic great HBO shows like Rome, Deadwood, The Sopranos, The Larry Sanders Show, Carnivale, etc on your Netflix instead. Much better and more rewarding use of tv time. ;)

9. The dialogue in Heroes sucks. What I like is the comic book framework,
it's such a damn shame that they killed the artist (Issac Mendez) from season one, that's one of my favorite characters, the future paintings were one of the best production values, although they've kind of kept that going (you'd think that's an ability Sylar would use once in a while since he has it now).

Knowing that the show kind of declined, I really wish they'd ended it with the season one finale, but of course they never do when the show is still successful. Now they've been back and forth and all over the place with Nathan or Sylar being evil versus not. Sheesh.

12. If you like the comicbook framework
you should check out some good actual comics like Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season #8 Issues 1-29 (current). Or Grant Morrison's run on the main Batman comic which started maybe like 3 years ago up through current day - really good stuff.

As far as shows go - Creepshow by Stephen King and George Romero while not a show is a great movie framed by a comicbook. Very similar and more recent is the excellent straight to dvd/blu-ray release called Trick R Treat starring the guy who plays Agent Ballard on Dollhouse (Helo from BSG) and the main chick from True Blood. Nice little set of scary stories. The closest actual tv show that resembles the good parts of Heroes is without a doubt Lost. If you want to go back a decade then The Adventures of Brisco County Jr by LOST writer and showrunner Carlton Cuse is a good choice. Maybe one of these can fill the void cause any Heroes past season 1 just isnt' gonna do it most likely.

10. No. While an early avid fan, this season is so boring it's difficult to finish an episode.
Feels more like work -- wanting to keep up with the storyline regardless of how boring and banal it is -- rather than enjoying oneself and being entertained.

11. The season has been pretty good. The show is a comic book TV series
So those that don't like the idea of a comic book TV show are now unhappy

15. Ok, I've gained some respect for the leader of the carnie freaks now
I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet, but he exacted some well deserved justice on some KKK redneck sheriffs tonight.
