Would one of you mind going down there to get me a beer? You can take one for yourself, too! Thanks in advance! I'm really thirsty.

1. This guy was in our basement last winter:

(next to some my boxing equipment for handy size comparison)

North American Fishing Spider. He was a big dude.

2. We have similar ones, totally harmless,
but if they're running over paper, you hear them tap-tap-tap.

Here's one big momma wasp spider I caught:

3. Fishing spiders are way cool.
We have a lake just behind the house, and we get these guys in the basement from time to time. We let 'em stay and eat any other bugs they catch. The guy in the picture, unfortunately, wandered too close to the cats (we found legs).

4. Our cat sniffs most spiders, and then goes like
'Ewwwww! I won't touch that thing! Take it away! The only bug that beats spiders are devil's coaches http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil%27s_coach_horse_beetle. He won't even sniff them. He did it once. 'Whoaa!' What is that? Get it off of my lawn!'

These are the biggest ones we have here:

It's just a little spider. Take it gently in your hand and there's a small window on the left to set her/him free. No big deal. There's also wine!

I mean, it's not like I asked anyone to handle the elephant we have in our bathroom ...

15. No bidet here.
I remember we had one where I grew up. I don't think there was great use to it. And the only time I used the thing was when my leg was in full cast and I couldn't take a shower or a bath. Then it was handy, but otherwise?

17. You have a bidet?
Europeans only use it once a month. We like to preserve the water. For ski resorts and artificial snow. Or something like that. ;)

19. My next house will have a bidet
After all the wonderful things I've read about them here on DU. Of course, water costs so much, I'll probably only use it once a month as well, but at least I'll have one to rub people's noses in it.

21. Just a note:
Do not destroy your natural bacteria-balance. I'm sorry if this is too much information. Bidets have killed too many people ...

Hey, water's free here!

No pun intended. I got a bill from our fucking landlords for 500€ extra in water bills two months ago. Water is free in der Schweiz?

26. In this state it is.
We pay for the outlets we have outside. Approx. € 300 a year. But then it can happen that we have no water during summer time, depending on the weather. But no, no water metering here yet, since this state produces hydroponic energy and has a lot of water to waste. You'll have to pay in the Northern states.

10. Hmmm, you might be right.
I may trade it for this 'modern home' midst in Zurich City! I mean really in the middle of the city. Like in the center of the city. Like totally close to everything in the city. W00t!

I might have a new home (in the center of the city!) shortly, but I still don't have a beer. I demand justice!

I have to say I grew up a little bit farther in the distance, but along the main route. So it took my by bus 10 minutes to get to the city. The place here (hopefully they have evolved since then, public transportation-wise) was a 40 minute trip by train and bus. That was like ... 'Where?'

Look at the bottom, there's 'Horn' written in the lake. From there the street I grew up began. Just next to Thomas Mann. ;) Actually, since Google street view has it now on server, I can walk from my old house to my old school. Was fun. And I was astonished about how nothing really changed there.

But yeah, to announce that as near the city is a bit exaggerating, to say at least.

11. Oh, I like orchids! Thanks for offering it!
And please, have a seat and feel at home! Oh, that's Freddy, he's very, very friendly. He likes to play fetch. I'm there in just a minute ... I think there's still a bottle of Château Margaux down there, next to the Château Petrus. Whatever you like! Thanks!
