Iphone users (and former users) any reason why I shouldn't get an Iphone
YEAH!!!!

Tomorrow I can unload this crappy piece of crap cell phone I own.

I've done the research and well, I'd just like to hear from a few DUers about their Iphone experience please.

It's the ONLY reason I'm sticking with AT&T

1. I have an iPhone 3G
I really like it, I love having internet access where ever I am. I've already posted on DU at a movie theater waiting for the movie to start, and at music festivals.
The youtube App, which automatically comes with the iPhone can be a little maddening. Sometimes the video will load only partially and refuse to load anymore and if you want to go back and replay a part of a video, you have to wait for it to load up again. :banghead:
Play around with the free Apps first, since you don't have to worry about wasting money if the App sucks and you need to delete it. I've gone through many Apps that only last a few minutes on my iphone because they suck so much. A lot of the pay Apps have free "lite" versions you can trial before paying for the full versions.

Edited on Tue Nov-10-09 10:49 AM by charlie and algernon
I've got almost 400 songs, 100 photos, and an episode of LOST and I still have 3.2 gigs available.

3. Its on AT&T
1/3rd of all calls in NYC get dropped by iPhones http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/09/30/iphone_dropping_calls/
My office mate just ditched his because he has the same issue here in the DC area. Verizon will have an iPhone sometime in early 2010.

6. I've had mine for about two months
I wouldn't get the $99 3G phone they are currently selling (and trying to unload). Rumor has it that they will have an 8 gig 3GS out before the end of the year for the same price. Plus you get no video camera ability with the 3G.

I originally got the 3G one and took it back the next day and spent the extra 100 bucks for the 3GS 16 gig model.

So far I really like it. Not the best phone out there, but makes up for it with versatility. Of course you add an extra 30 bucks a month for data use on top of the phone plan, but I don't mind. There are a lot of free apps out there that are worth getting and most of the paid apps are fairly cheap.

I've really have had no problems with connectivity, but in places I can't get reception I just turn off 3G service and use E service and it works fine. That's really only at work. I work at NASA and all of the satellites in our facility seem to do something to 3G reception.

Honestly, it is the coolest thing I have gotten since I bought my first computer.

My only complaint is that Apple is a very frustrating company and prohibits certain functions that should be available. For example, they have a cable you can get so you can hook your Iphone up to the TV, but it has to be there's and it only works in the Ipod mode. They don't let it work with games and other apps, but people who "jailbreak" their phones can do it. I bought a different brand cable and when I plugged it in it said something like "This product does not work with the Iphone, switch to airplane mode?", I chose no and it worked anyway...so far. Also two radios that are supposed to be for ipods show the same message, but they work anyway.

I say go for it, it is a really handy device.

9. maybe wait for the Verizon version
Rumor has it that there will be a Verizon compatible iPhone, maybe by the end of the year.

Verizon has a much better G3 and a budding G4 network compared to AT&T.
