Aerosmith's Joe Perry: Band not breaking up, will continute to suck with or without Steven Tyler
Aerosmith's Joe Perry: Band not breaking up

NEW YORK – Aerosmith's lead guitarist Joe Perry says the legendary rock band isn't breaking up — although they may be in need a new singer.

Perry said on the micro-blogging site Twitter late Monday that Aerosmith is "not splitting up" but "looking for a new singer to work with" amid growing speculation about the future of the band and the role of front man Steven Tyler.

Tyler has been quoted as saying he is considering a solo career.

Perry said Monday on WKXL, a radio station in Concord, New Hampshire, that Tyler hasn't communicated his intentions with anyone in the band and that he found out about Tyler's solo wishes after going online.

Tyler could not immediately be reached for comment.

5. I grew up listening to, and enjoying, big portions of everything through "Draw The Line"
I even went along with the "comeback," until they recorded the God-awful "Don't Want To Miss A Thing." To me, that was a sell-out that surpassed KISS's disco hit "I Was Made For Lovin' You." That one song entitled them to a lifetime of trash-talk from any serious fan of the band, back in the day (although I know many feel that they were a laughable Stones wannabe band from day one).

6. I grew up during the music videos that made Alicia Silverstone famous.
Those songs got annoying real fast. I cant stand them now. Whatever happened to Alicia Silverstone?

12. Wouldn't be surprised
He's a Repuke and he loves to sing cheese ballads, so he'd fit right in with Perry.

Of course Michael Anthony can't remove his head from Hagar's ass, so Sammy would probably insist they hire him too.

Then they could play a whole set of post 86- AeroShit and VanHagar songs and bore the living shit out of everybody :boring:

9. Returning to the glory days of "The Joe Perry Project" eh?
This is like the Stones trying to carry on if Mick Jagger quit, or the Doors after the death of Jim Morrison. Tyler *IS* Aerosmith for 95% of the world. Of course, I'm sure as many people will line up to buy his solo album as bought Jagger's solo albums. That is to say, virtually none.

10. Exactly...

...think for a moment about the numerous "best bass player" polls on DU (I can recall at least a half dozen).

Among the "Jaco Pastorius" and "John Entwistle" and "James Jamerson" votes, I can't recall a single vote for "Tom Hamilton."

Same thing for Joey Kramer. "Greatest drummer" polls? Suspiciously ABSENT.

That leaves Perry and Whitford. Whitford is "bar band capable"...Perry may think he's Keith Richards, but his record is sadly limited to The Joe Perry Project.

So unless they bring in a "superstar cast-off," their option is going to be to follow in the footsteps of Journey and Foreigner:

1). Go on YouTube, find a "tribute band" singer who sounds like your old singer

2). Sign an "exclusive" deal with Wal-Mart, release album that includes a new CD, "re-recorded hits" with the new guy, and a concert CD and / or DVD with the new guy.

I'll bet Perry's on the phone to Wal-Mart as we speak.

An album and some shows. As a matter of fact, I'm going to see him Saturday night.

21. It all depends on who these guys decide to hook up with
The "outside songwriters" thing...like Dianne Warren on "Don't Want To Miss A Thing"...was a major contributing factor to the band jumping the shark in the eyes of long-time fans.

So if Perry can pull off a decent solo project, more power to him. The same for signing up a new lead singer. But if they go the Journey / Foreigner route, that would be the last shovel of dirt on the coffin...at least in my opinion.

23. I used to think that Kramer was an underrated drummer due to all of those...
percussive touches on the non-suck era of Aerosmith records.
Then...I found out that Jack Douglas was responsible for the percussion.

26. Funny you should mention this
The Joe Perry Project is back and playing gigs around the northeast even as we speak. They're playing a show in Hampton beach tomorrow night.

Not to be outdone, Tyler is performing solo at a benefit for Child and Family Services in Concord in January.

NEW YORK – Relax, Aerosmith fans: Steven Tyler says he isn't leaving the band.

Tyler made a surprise appearance with guitarist Joe Perry and his band Tuesday night at a New York City venue. Tyler told the crowd: "I am not leaving Aerosmith."

Rolling Stone and Billboard magazines report the two then launched into their song "Walk This Way."

The appearance seemed to put an end to speculation about the band's future.

Perry recently tweeted that Aerosmith was "looking for a new singer to work with" and told the Las Vegas Sun that Tyler had quit, at as far as he could tell.
