I thought I'd get busy writing the movie script now so I could get a copyright on it before the rush.

1. Whenever we blow ourselves up would be my guess.
If you believe the bible, then pick a time when no one says it will be the end of the world, but the minute you pick it as the time of the worlds end then you can bet it will not be the time for end of the world.

I don't quote the bible, but it basically says that no man knows the day or time for the end of the world. That any day/time that is named by man...it will not be it. That is why when I grew up we (my family) always felt safe on the days that most people were waiting for it all to end because someone had said it would.

Personally I don't worry about the end of the world because individually our world will end the day we die. Gloom and doom...that's me.

9. I didn't catch that. Very funny. ;)
I am old and use man to mean both sexes. Sorry to all those who resent this but I just don't think there is that much differences in the genders except for the sexual organs. Shoot me!

10. I try to use neutral language, but don't worry about what others use, unless
I see a chance for a pun in it. :)

12. I usually try to use neutral also but everything seems less serious these days.
I seem to be loosing my social skills a bit. I catch myself saying 'I reckon' and other folksy sayings and think how my old professors would react if they heard me talk like this. And yes, not using neutral terms would be one thing they would object to. I am just getting worn out by dealing with life while not really dealing with anything. Good Gravy! It is early morning here and you can tell it by my dreariness.

On a more cheerful note and to be perfectly honest with you, I have always had a knack of making people laugh without trying to. As my mother use to say: I (meaning me) suffer from foot in mouth disease. Now I must add that I enjoy a good pun myself and found yours very amusing.

:hi: Nightie night

2. April 13, 2036.
Edited on Tue Nov-17-09 01:40 AM by MilesColtrane
Asteroid 99942 Apophis has a 1 in 250,000 chance of impacting the Earth, making it a level 4 on the Torino scale

(A close encounter, meriting attention by astronomers. Current calculations give a 1% or greater chance of collision capable of regional devastation. Most likely, new telescopic observations will lead to re-assignment to Level 0. Attention by public and by public officials is merited if the encounter is less than a decade away.)

It passes close to the Earth in 2029. During this pass its orbit could be altered to make it more, or less, of a threat in 2036.

4. That helps. We can split proceeds on the "I survived Asteroid 99942" tee shirts.
Maybe we could jump the gun, and sell "I will survive Asteroid 99942" shirts...

7. 2014. (End of the oil empires.) No, the *real* end.
Think it's bad now? Wait 'til we literally can't get from one end of town to the other.

8. Like the rest of these dates, they've been predicting that one since 1890 or so.
I know, I know, it's real this time.

15. The date for the end of the world for any one of us could be any minute.
The world ends for tens of thousands of people each day.

I'm more interested in amusing teleological predictions than an existential gravity bomb. :P

17. There's always the Unix End of Time in 2038
Similar to the Y2K problem, but more difficult to work around (for legacy 32-bit systems/applications only - so probably less trouble overall than the Y2k one was).
