DU doggiefolk: What are your opinions on this?

My old GSD is having a real hard time with her hips. I saw this traction aid and wonder if anyone has experience with it.

"Help your older dog get a secure grip on any surface. Hip dysplasia, arthritis, and recuperation from surgery can often result in weakened muscles, which can lead to dangerous slips and falls. Non-slip Paw-Pads™ are a simple and effective way to instill confidence and keep your dog walking safely. They attach easily with a water-resistant, nontoxic, hypoallergenic medical-grade adhesive. Your dog will quickly forget they're there. Each box contains 2 sheets with 4 paws on each sheet."

1.  I just may get those for my Rottweiler.
She is 12 years old and has arthritis. She has to climb some steps to get into the house and struggles to climb them. Not many steps, only about 5, but she really has a hard time. And I am not able to carry her up, as she weighs 102 pounds. Thanks for posting this. I am definitely going to give them a try.

2. I would worry about the dog chewing them off
Please let us know how they work.

5. I just came back from Orvis.com
Bought them and a really nice fleece dog jacket. I knew I would buy something else for my dog if I went there. I will post after I receive them and let you know how they worked., My Rottie probably would not try to chew them off.

7. Yeah. My dogs would take the Paw-Pads as a treat ...
and then move on to licking on their own hot spots while they were in the neighborhood, so to speak.

Dobermans are sooooo neurotic.

4. It looks like a good idea
Our first floor was all ceramic tile when we lived in CA - now we have all wood floors. I think these would work great if you could keep them on the paws. Also, I wonder how long they last and can they be worn outside.

6. They look like they might work. How old is your GSD?
Mine will be 12 in February. He is also starting to have some hip issues.
Are you giving your pup any supplements? Glucosamine Chondroitin for instance.

I have not heard really great things about some of the prescription meds as they affect the liver..so you have to be very careful.

Swim therapy is supposed to be very good for arthritis, as is acupuncture..and even doggie massage.

Keep me posted on how your pup is doing. What is his/her name? Any pics?

Here is my GSD, Boen..napping with one of my cats.

8. We don't know how old Sandy is as she is a rescue doggie.

We give her the Glucosamine everyday. Here is a pcture from about 4 years ago. She has a lot more grey now, and she had hematomas in her ears so they are now kinda floppy. When the pix was taken she was just over 100 lbs.

Your fur-friends are beautiful. My favorite cat is the B&W. I had several as a child. Ms. Flake is allergic, unfortunately.
