Is it wrong to like Jimmy Buffett?
I know Jimmy's a few years past his prime, but I still enjoy listening to his tunes. Maybe it's just that I'm from Florida, where Jimmy is extremely popular.

However, I've noticed some people are amused that someone my age (I'm 19) would list Jimmy Buffett among their favorite musicians.

Hell, I might even shell out the $60 when he's on tour this year. I'm sure most of the people will be middle-aged "Parrot Heads", but it could make for an interesting evening.

2. Not at all.
I am much older than you (54) and am a big Jimmy Buffett fan. We can use all the Parrotheads we can get.

3. He puts on a helluva a show...
I would reccomend it. How do you like the song "He went to Paris"?
That is one of my favorites, and not your typical Buffet.

4. That's one of my favorites
Most of his songs are rather light-hearted. "He Went to Paris" has a nice meaning.

5. I'm a longtime music critic
and while my feelings about Jimmy Buffett aren't altogether enthiusiastic, I have one funny story to tell.

A fellow critic, a guy I knew pretty well an d who was very good in his day, once wrote that a early 90's Jimmy Buffett concert was the only time he was thrown up on and was subsequently expected to apologize.

10. I've never heard that he was a Republican and...
He campaigned for Siegelman, a Democrat, in the last gubernatorial election here in Alabama.

8. There's no "right" or "wrong" when it comes to liking music.
I personally don't care for Buffett, but so what? Hell, some of my favorite bands might end up in your trashcan! It's all a matter of personal taste. ;)

9. No, not at all

But if we ever meet can I tell my friends you're a complete stranger? :) :)

Just kidding - I don't care for him at all, but many people do, so perhaps I'm in the minority.

11. no. but it is diminished a bit if you wear a foam parrothead
i spent a lot of dissipated time in the Keys in the mid-late '70s where Buffet used to come around the bars.

every time i hear one of his songs i think of those days of sand, sunburn, reefer and rum.........damn that's a song title just looking for lyrics

as we used to say...another shitty day in paradise

16. He's "extremely popular" in Cincinnati, too...
....so that should tell you how uncool Buffet is.

17. I've never seen anyone that has more fun playing music.
It's infectious. And he's written some of the best lyrics I've ever heard.

I'm surprised he hasn't come out with a tune about this administration....seems like there'd be plenty of hooks for defining the Bushleague administration. Sorta an updated "Everybody's got a cousin in Miami" theme.

18. A friend once asked me, "Any idea why Jimmy Buffett fans call themselves..
...parrotheads?"

"Yes," I replied. "Because their brains are about the size of one!"

19. One reason I like Jimmy
He's always campaigning for Democrats. In 1996 he played at a Clinton rally. Last year he was out campaigning for McBride, and he endorsed Graham for President. I fully expect to see him endorse Kerry.
