"FAIL" - what an absolutely stupid way to refute someone else's point!

"Fail?" That's it? Just "fail?" Do you have anything else to add, dear chap? Is that the extent of your vocabulary? Can I grab you a Roget's and a tutor?

This internet phenomenon is, ironically, a FAILURE for the person to find the right words to communicate his or her disagreement. It's rhetorical shorthand for "I either don't believe in an exchange of ideas or am incapable of communicating my disagreement."

"Fail?" No, sir or madame, you're the one who's failing at communication.

Now I will stop my rant to provide ample time for clever people to respond to me with "FAIL!" :P

10. Me, too.
When someone posts something that is so utterly ridiculous, there is no better, more appropriate response.

13. yes, in fact I've come to enjoy it with a guy on a music board who is constantly wrong about things
He's the typical rightwing talking point troll, who refuses to admit he listens to Rush/Beck/FOX even as he says almost verbatim what they say. And like I said, he's so often wrong on things that it's become a fun game to find new ways to FAIL him.

6. Yes, its the net equivalent of "well, FUCK YOU!!!" and nothing else
And yes, the toddlers who post "FAIL" are the ones who truly fail at communication. Just like the harpys who screech "GODWIN" anytime anyone even remotely mentions the Nazis

11. My kid uses this buzzword at times, but he uses it in a different context
he says fail if someone screws up, haven't ever heard him use it the way you describe. I must agree, I would just stand there dumbfounded if someone said fail to me in that regard...it would probably spark my immediate response of 'WHAT?!?!

Dude.

That's the one I hate. Once in awhile...OK....but I'm noticing more and more people that can't start one sentence without that word. Reminds me of a stoned 14 year old.

18. Oh, I wish you hadn't mentioned this.
You and the person reporting the failure have a bit of work ahead of you. I'll send a memo for a head's up to the FRB and the FCP. First, you'll need to send off your FNT. After you have completed your FA, I expect the following from both of you: your FAR, FIAR, NCR, and TFR. All reports should include the FEA, FESL, FID, FMEA, FMECA, MCBF, MTBF, MTTF, MTTFF, SFPA, SPFA, SFPS and the future SPFP. The PF in your case appears high, so triple-check the FDI for FO, FO/FS, FS and FS, HF, SFP and SPF.

And don't forget the new covers on your TPS Report, or it's FL for the both of you!

ACRONYM LIST
FA - Failure Analysis
FAR - Failure Analysis Report
FCP - Failure Correction Panel
FDI - Failure Detector Indicator
FEA - Failure Effects Analysis
FESL - Failure Effects Summary List
FIAR - Failure Investigation Action Report
FID - Failure Identification
FL - Fail
FMEA - Failure Modes and Effects Analysis
FMECA - "Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis"
FNT - Failure Notification Telex
FO - Fail Operational
FO/FS - Fail-Operational/Fail-Safe
FRB - Failure Review Board
FS - Fail-Safe
FS - Fail to Sync
HF - Hard Failure
MCBF - Mean Cycle between Failures
MTBF - Mean Time between Failure
MTTF - Mean Time to Failure
MTTFF - Mean Time to First Failure
NCR - Nonconformance/Failure Report
PF - Probability of Failure
SFP - Single Failure Point
SFPA - Single Failure Point Analysis
SFPS - Single Failure Point Summary
SPF - Single Point Failure
SPFA - Single Point Failure Analysis
SPFP - Single Point Failure Potential
TFR - Trouble and Failure Report
