Those guys are great songwriters. What Up Dog? and Are You OK are two of my all time favorite discs!

Favorite Was (not Was) song: Out Come the Freaks

Smoking little cigars
Playing these tapes of her husband
She says "Doesn't he sound like Elvis?"
She makes champagne out of 7-Up and cheap wine
Like a chemist

7. "Dead Man's Party" is actually a pretty good tune
"Waiting for an invitation to arrive
going to a party where no one is alive
waiting for an invitation..."

"Only A Lad" is my favorite Oingo Boingo tune.

11. Was (Not Was) was always more interesting...
...to me at least. Oingo Boingo always sounded like a band that was trying desperately hard to be hip and cool and weird, but was really something else. That, and all their songs sounded really similar, in a way.

Was (Not Was) was more like a producers' project than a real band, but they kept it mixed up and worked with some top notch people. "Born to Laugh at Tornadoes" has some real gems on there, and their hit single "Walk the Dinosaur" was pure funky fun. Yeah, they had some odd for odd's sake stuff that could be safely skipped, but overall, quite good. Their two main singers, Sweet Pea Atkinson and Sir Harry, were great soul singers and are now part of the Lyle Lovett camp of backup singers.

Apart from Elfman, I think the rest of the Boingo guys run a Jiffy Lube in Reno.

Oingo Boingo are to Was (Not Was) as the film "Back to School" is to the film "Pump Up the Volume"
