What is a better way to get to the Javits Center in NYC?
I'm going to take a train down from CT. I can take Amtrak into Penn Station, or take Metro North into Grand Central. From either place, I think I need to take a bus, but which is closer/more convenient to Javits - Penn Station or Grand Central?

Thanks

1. I think they're both pretty close --
The official address of the center is far west 34th street, so Penn Station is closer, but do you really want to spend extra money on Amtrak? Metro north is fine.

From either Grand Central or Penn Station, it's pretty walkable to the Center. DON'T take a bus -- you can walk faster than the buses travel.

3. Take Metro North and then the subway...
Take the Times Square shuttle, and transfer to the downtown A/C/E train downtown one stop to 34th street. Javits Center is two or three blocks from the subway. I think the stop is labeled Javits Center.

4. Amtrak goes right from central CT to Penn
Metro-North only goes as far as New Haven. So you'd be taking Amtrak down there anyway (or driving it on 91).

6. Actually it goes all the way to Waterbury now.

Inner-spoke "New Haven Line" actually splits off before New Haven at either Bridgeport or Stamford and runs up to Waterbury. From where Jeff is (somewhere in the Farmington Valley as far as I can reckon based on things he's mentioned before) that's pretty much a 20 minute drive with almost no traffic.

I make this trip a lot...no idea how to get to Javits Center though. I will say that Met-North is like $22 from Waterbury and Amtrak is like $15 to New Haven and like $40-$50 to NYC from Hartford.

but the Waterbury Branch runs about four trains a day, plus you have to change to the mainline train at Bridgeport.

8. Don't take the train from Waterbury. The service is super crappy.
You are much better off driving to Bridgeport or one of the coastal towns on the New Haven line and catching a direct train.
