It's pretty clear, in the face of "Chinese Democracy"...an album that took Axl what, FIFTEEN YEARS to make...that Guns 'n' Roses was a BAND, and one guy..."Mick" of the band or not...is not necessarily a recipe for success.

Rolling Stone had that famous / infamous shirtless cover, back in the day:



I was at a newsstand and a woman, maybe in her mid-30s, dressed in what I would call "upscale office attire," came in and asked if there were still copies available. It had sold out...the next issue was actually the one on the shelves.

She then went into a discussion of why she wanted a copy, which ended with "MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM."

So the short version is the "some women like 'bad boys,' and the bigger the asshole, the more they like them" premise.

I know that it pisses some women off to HEAR that, but it's TRUE, and the operative phrase here is "some women."

At the time of that Rolling Stone cover, all eyes were on Axl because he was the proverbial "accident waiting to happen."

Then he took too much time off from his day job and people stopped caring one way or another, so he now has to resort to poppin' paps in airports to get the media's attention.

From his behavior through the years, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's bipolar. It's too bad because he's talented. G'n'R was such a good band.

I was 15 years old and that first album, Appetite For Destruction, had just come out. That's the best music ever for pubescent boys. That stuff was just laden with testosterone. I have lots of good memories associated with that album.

I don't know what happened to Axl. Maybe he was always an asshole and everybody just got tired of putting up with him.
