I'm thinking about getting pregnant during comps. My oh my.
Yes, this is a random thread, but next fall is my last actual semester of coursework, during and after which I'll prepare for and take my comprehensive exams in the spring of '11. That way (hopefully) I'll just need to worry about dissertation writing and the baby. I don't know if this is a great plan of action or why the hell I'm talking about this here, but I suppose I'm feeling a bit anxious about the entire process, including worrying about the sensation of being pregnant. The hub is preparing a battery of support mechanisms (therapist, trainer, etc.) to get me through this process. I don't have a good "woman support network" in my mother and sisters, so I can't rely on them for "good advice." Anyway - I can't believe I'm considering this! I'm freaking out! Ahhhh!!!1111ELEVENS.

Sigh,

~Writer~

1. Can't really give any good advice in this area
Just thought I'd wish you well. Maybe your mother & sisters will offer support when you need it.

2. Good luck if you decide to try to get pregnant ...
One thing to keep in mind, most of us experience/d major FATIGUE (during the first trimester, especially). It knocked me off my feet. I would take a shower and then have to go lie down because I'd used up all my energy reserves.

Was it all worth it? Oh, HELL YES! :)

3. Wonderful - at least you're thinking about it in advance!
Anxiety is absolutely normal, and anticipating the sensations of pregnancy make supreme sense. You will be fatigued, you may or may not have what's commonly referred to as "morning sickness" - which doesn't arrive for every pregnancy, BTW, and can be present for two weeks in the beginning or can last the entire 40 weeks of pregnancy itself. (Not trying to scare you, but I wish someone had told me that at the git-go.) Sounds like your husband is very willing to help out and support a lot, and his care and concern really make a huge difference. You'll find more support at childbirth classes, through your midwife or doctor, etc. This can be an incredibly special time for you, and I wish you the best whatever you decide.
