I've dumped Firefox for Google's Chrome browser.
It's fast and seems robust and lightweight in the memory department.

Or everything Firefox used to be, and isn't any more. :D

Anyone else using it? I'm digging on some of the simple feature improvements. Every one is a "why didn't someone do that sooner?" kind of thing. :)

1. I like Chrome, for older computers it's the best choice
it's got the smallest memory footprint and the least overhead (so it's fast). It lacks the ability (at least that I am aware of) to add on extra features but for a fast solid browser it can't be beat.

2. Chrome exists for one reason: advertising revenue.
It is in the license agreement, plain as anything. Google doesn't even try to hide the fact. The only reason they wrote it is so they can track your browsing history and sell it to advertisers. Same thing as with the so called "loyalty cards" at grocery stores. If you don't mind the Orwellian nature of Chrome, go ahead and enjoy it. I'll stick with Firefox and AdBlock Plus.

3. Meh, I've read it. No worse than anyone else, IMO.
Plenty of opt-out options in Chrome, too.

4. Interesting. Thanks for sharing. BTW Firefox "No Script" also helps to keep your personal computer
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 11:55 AM by phasma ex machina
personal. Just make sure that after installation you click on "No Script" options in the lower right hand corner, then click on the "Whitelist" tab to remove all of those sites that M$M pre-loaded for you. (For your own good. :sarcasm:)

6. I didn't know about "No Script" - how is that different from simply disabling JavaScript?
A lot of sites are useless without JavaScript. I find that annoying. I use CSS on my sites for things like mouse-over changes since a lot of people keep JavaScript disabled. Since it came out, I've been a believer in not requiring JavaScript on any home page and making it clear when a page is going to require it for a legitimate reason so the user can decide whether or not to turn it on.

10. +1 "A lot of sites are useless without JavaScript. I find that annoying."
"No Script" allows you to easily (with a click, popup, click) either temporarily or permanently enable JavaScript for a site. As you say, sometimes one must reluctantly allow worthy sites to use JavaScript.

11. They aren't all "worthy", but I hear you. Thanks for the tip!
The plug-ins for Firefox are and probably always will be the thing that makes it the best browser.

15. Look, if you aren't doing anything wrong, you've got nothing to worry about

16. Thank you Rush Limbaugh.
"doing something wrong" has nothing to do with basic privacy expectations. That's silly.

7. I've been an Opera user for about a decade.
I'm not likely to ever change, either, as it does all the things the other ones do. For some things, it did them first (like tabbed browsing) and years before the others stole the idea :P
