1. I got two
California state Hwys 16 and 20. California state hwy 12 is pretty good, too, but I used to drive it daily so the charm mostly disappeared years ago.

And covers the long, trecherous 17 mile trek from the Baltimore Beltway to the outskirts of Annapolis.

43. I-68 is the kickass Maryland interstate route.
Edited on Thu Dec-17-09 12:47 PM by arcadian
The best connector from the east coast to the midwest. Avoids that horrible curvy mountain section of I-70/I-76 between Hancock and Pittsburg, and you avoid that truck stop town in Pa. Breezewood.

I-68 is all open road over gentle mountains and nobody is driving it. Jet up to Pa and the next thing you know you are in Ohio. Your other alternative is I-64 through Va and WV. All mountain curvy ass road.

37. I like I-84 as well...
Although I like the PA-NY-CT-MA version, not the UT-ID-OR version.
There's two I-84s, ya know.

There's nothing spectacular about the Eastern version, and the Western version has much better views, but I'm just partial to East Coast over West Coast.

38. Yeah, Washington State Hwy 14 on the Washington side of the river is even better
but it's not divisible by 4. And speaking of state routes rather than highways and interstates, SR-20 through North Cascades National Park is spectacular.

Right now it's closed for the winter:

(Top center is Early Winters Spires, Liberty Bell Mountain kinda getting cut off on the right.)

Edited on Thu Dec-17-09 05:11 PM by Rhythm
were in front of the occasional 24-hr gas stations/convenience stores, scary-looking biker bars, or directly inside cities/towns. The rest were all gone.

To be fair, i was looking for one to take home myself... :hide:
Had to settle for a "Devil's Highway" t-shirt, which i think i still have in a box somewhere.
