Screw this ball falling in Times Square, Champagne, and going out to eat bullshit.

Let's make it something worth fucking doing next time!

Flamethrowers for everyone.

Hundreds of thousands of elephants released all over the country.

And the army corps of engineers can spend all of December randomly placing tens of millions of landmines in US soil - homes, yards, streets, businesses, national parks, and so on. Arm 'em all at 11:45 pm in whatever time zone they're in, and let the country enjoy the hell out of New Year's!

I don't know why no one ever asks me about this shit. I'm loaded with the best ideas.

But do you ever see me on a planning committee?

Fuck no.

1. Have I ever told you about the Scottish NYE traditions of Hogmanay?
Playing with Fire. Drunkenness. Racing to be the first one across the neighbor's threshhold.(It's lucky. You bring them a gift, usually whiskey or fruitcake, and they have to feed you and get you shitfaced.)Gift-giving. Smoking out your house with a juniper branch until the old people start to couch then opening all the windows. More Drunkenness. Fireworks. Mummers Parades. Singing Auld Lang Syne. Street Festivals. And...it all lasts from NYE though daybreak of Jan. 2.

Tell me this does not look fun?

3. I really need to move to Scotland. No pussyfootin', beautiful landscape, no sun,
lots of rain, peety scotch, men who know how to be men and women who know how to be women even while the men can be womanly and the women manly, plus great pubs, healthcare, an attitude of "why work so much? Have a drink."

Mostly, though, it's the weather - nice long nights in the fall and winter; rarely have to deal with that goddamn sun shining down; lots of rain; and whisky to make it all worthwhile. Plus lots of fire and stuff.

We enjoyed our mild raspberry spumante and watching the ball drop with the sound off (hmm, his clueless blandness Carson Dailey or that Idol tool, hmm, what a choice) and put on jazz on NPR instead.

Some folks we know played at a giant rave near here. Apparently that was fun til 5 am.
