5. Condoleeza is so white that in the inevitable TV movie
she will be portrayed by Shelley Long.

6. Maybe it would be beneficial
to stick to more serious issues, such as personal traits of honesty, sincerity, & insight, or broader issues about policies and history of service. Race and gender are fair game in a serious vein: does Condi Rice serve as a proper role model for young Black women? for young Brown, Red, Yellow, and/or White women? But it might be better to avoid using inflamitory "humor" that serves to divide even the open-minded folks here. Does that make sense?

7. To all who are taking offense to this joke
Do yourself a favor and watch the "racial draft" episode of Chappelle Show. This isn't exactly an original idea being exposed by some evil white person.

9. One difference is that
the Chappelle show is really funny. Please don't get me wrong: I like even the sickest humor. And I have no problem offending people; in fact, I often hold my tongue on here. My point is that there are significant differences between the Chappelle show and d.u., and that the joke that began this thread might not cut the mustard on either venue. Just my opinion; others might be holding their sides, shaking in laughter. But I appreciate your point.

12. It's the exact same joke.
And it's funny in both places.

11. Listen, I was making a little joke and I didn't mean to be offensive.
If I offended anyone, I'm sorry.:D The point I was making was that Rice and Powell are working for people who don't give a damn about African American rights. They're against affirmative action and "welfare moms." Also, I never hear these African americans talking about black issues unless it suits their political purposes. This is the context of my joke.

13. actually no...
Colin Powell has said he is for affirmative action and has said there is still a need for it in society(I agree with him 100%). As for Condi Rice, who I still have a lot of problems with(I admire her intelligence, loathe what she uses it for), while she was at Stanford as provost, I was there and there were a lot of affirmative action issues based on faculty hiring and tenure and she did not acquit herself well IMO. But I didn't like people accusing her of "not being black" because she didn't agree with them-that's crossing the line.

And as for them not talking about black issues unless it suits their political purposes, why limit it to them? Name any politician that doesn't only come to black people or get the spirit in a photogenic southern church when he or she needs their vote. Other that that, we are used as bogeymen by some groups to get the white suburban vote or seen as a guaranteed vote or a burden by other groups.

Maybe you should stick to just saying "Rice and Powell are working for people who don't give a damn about African American rights." That I agree with. That could start a decent conversation. Check yourself and drop the "jokes" unless you want the hook.
