I hate online job applications that "allow" you to cut-and-paste your resume

Because they seldom (in my experience) allow you to upload the document directly, and because they never offer a "Preview" function, so you have no idea whether your beautiful Word document has translated into anything other than a garbled mush. At best, you can hope to verify that all of the intended words are there in more or less the right order.

Otherwise, all bets are off.

1. It's especially stupid when you're a graphic designer. I spent hours designing my

resume and making it look just right, and then I'm supposed to just cut and paste the text into a weird online form? That makes no sense.

When I was hiring at an old job, the resume was the person's first chance to impress me. Clean, attractive design, nice type choices, good flow, NO TYPOS, etc. were all good indicators to me that the person was serious, paid attention to details, and had a good design sense. How can anyone tell any of that from a garbled online form?

And why the hell do they need to know the street address for my professional references?

I've known some of these people for 15 years, and I have no idea what their addresses are. Nor do they know mine!

It looks bad on a resume when you have to say "I have episodes of gamma-induced monstrosity resulting from rage," but there you have it.
