For some reason they think The Spiderman story needs to be retold. I hope they do a Steampunk Spiderman.

Edit: Maybe this time they wont freaking kill the Green Goblin off again.

1. And they're redoing Dune, Planet of the Apes, and Avatar.
Okay, I was kidding about Avatar.

2. Wasn't the first Green Goblin killed off in the original Spidey comics?
I seem to remember that happening when I subscribed* to Spidey comics in elementary school.

*(also had subscriptions to Hulk, Avengers, and X-Men)

3. Eventually, he died
Only to be replaced by Hobgoblin. Hobgoblin died after a while, and was replaced by Hobgoblin II. He eventually died, too, IIRC.

The key is eventually. Too many of the new comic movies have killed the villain right off the bat. Dark Knight got this right, leaving the Joker alive. Sadly, he can't return for other reasons.

4. Yeah, but....
I really don't expect big budget Hollywood movies to follow the "lore" of the comic book world. I don't mind if they take a few liberties, as long as the movie is well-written and well-acted.

5. I agree
But the returning villain is one of the hallmarks of comic books. Most of Batman's arch-villains were inmates in Arkham, and would, with hilarious regularity, break out to wreak havoc for a few issues.

That's why I liked Batman Begins and Dark Knight. Of the three villains, two lived (Scarecrow and Joker). Although they did let Sandman live at the end of Spidey 3.

Rumour has it that Cameron is doing the new Spidey in 3D.
