2. I haven't seen either and don't intend to.
I guess that counts as a toss-up.

4. I haven't seen Avatar.
But I have seen Titanic. And since that one sucked more than any two movies I've ever seen, Titanic gets my vote.

5. Avatar.
Titanic was more original and the characters were more developed.

8. A friend of mine has suggested that Cameron peaked with Aliens
Though I'll give him T2, as well.

10. It has some great parts, but it's a little histrionic
And it's been mocked for using the old "slap and shout the character back from the dead" shtick.

Also, it suffers from Cameron's fast-and-loose interpretation of hypothermia, which is sometimes debilitating and sometimes empowering.

Crazy stuff, that hypothermia!

12. Well technically hypothermia can be both
Sometimes in order to treat medical conditions people are immersed in ice to bring the temps down and it has been shown that people who are immersed in frigid water for long time sometimes are prserved from death/brain damage by the cold.
But obviously hypothermia normally is pretty destructive. The human body is a funny thing. Sometimes it survives and thrives when it should not and sometimes it dies when it seems like it shouldn't....

13. I'm thinking of the scene where Ed Harris and Burly Guy go for a quick swim
Edited on Wed Jan-27-10 09:31 AM by Orrex
After having previously stated how quickly the water would kill an unprotected person, Ed and Burly are able to swim an astonishing distance quite comfortably and then take out a crazy SEAL. You'd think that Ed would need to warm his tooties for a few minutes, at least.

And then, just minutes after Ed has gone swimming, Mary Elizabeth tells him how cold the water is. Somehow Ed is mighty enough to brave the elements, but wispy Mary Elizabeth just can't swim with the big dogs!

It's kind of like Lenny and Kate running around the sinking boat after being immersed chest-deep in icy North Atlantic waters, with no apparent ill effects. And then Lenny hangs out with her for a while as she's floating on that door. Admittedly he dies, but somehow is thinnish frame manages to last almost as long in the water as a big fat polar bear!
