Reasons to Worry About Indiana, Episode 445: They Count Roadkill
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=90090427

Environmental scientist Dave Glista, Purdue University, monitored 11 miles of Indiana road for 17 months, counting and categorizing all the roadkill he found there.

Of the 10,000 squashed animals he scraped up, he got eight different species of amphibians, 360 mammal carcasses, 9800 frogs, 205 birds and 141 reptiles.

In Louisiana they don't bother counting the roadkill. I think it's because the gators compete with the researchers for it, and no one wants to fuck with an alligator.

Then again...in Marlinton, WV, they hold an annual roadkill cook-off. Your dish must be made out of the flesh of animals commonly seen as roadkill, although the use of authentic roadkill isn't required. http://entertainment.wagerweb.com/wtf/roadkill-cook-off-kill-it-cook-it-eat-it-10545.html

BTW what's the actual German translation for roadkill? Ron Turner always thought it was "strassenunfälle."
