I have never been in IKEA before, just picking stuff up for other people.

A friend of mine received a $500 gift card so she wanted to spent it on a new bed.

I got tired of waiting for her so I started walking around just looking.

I lost all sense of direction.

I could not find my friend again so I called her on the cell phone.

I told her I would meet her in the front of the store if I could find it.

Finally I did find the food area and had a hotdog and ice tea.

I did buy this huge white candle for $20, it will burn forever.

I know my directions but I couldn't in the store.

The place was huge.

4. What they do is have you walk in circles until you buy something.
I bought the huge candle and then I found my way out.

The warehouse part was really huge, floor to ceiling flat boxes.

The hot dog was good, only 50 cents.

The ice tea was excellent.

5. The store has some way to throw off a person's sense of direction.
I don't think a compass would help.

It was like being in the Twilight Zone.

8. You just have to keep moving counterclockwise.
Eventually you find the exit. But it's a little disturbing the first time you go there.

13. It's a claustrophobics biggest fear...
no windows, a lot of people... no exit.

I hate to even think what would happen if there was a fire in one of their idiotic stores.

10. Firetrap store, tragedy waiting to happen.
Every IKEA store is set up so people get lost. In case of emergency I shudder to think what would happen. I don't know how this is allowed. Any firemen on here want to weigh in?

12. We have firecodes, somebody has been paid off.
And others will pay dearly someday. I won't go into an Ikea store and I tell others not to. I have never felt unsafe in a store before but they are all set up the same way. Bad news.

19. I used to be in the fire prevention/protection biz
IKEA's are definitely dangerous as far as access to exits. Not enough and way to hard to find.
I will give them this though. While the exits are hard to find they make up for it with fire sprinkler systems. The store I have been in had a sprinkler system that was without a doubt designed with overkill in mind.Anyone under their sprinklers when they go off is going to get soaked to the bone in about a quarter of a second.

"Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
relax, said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!"

I wasn't very hungry.

The prices were low for meals.

I did see the meatballs, does that count.

22. That's why Ingvar Kamprad is the 5th richest person in the world.
Worth $22 billion.

Making people walk through an entire labyrinthine store just to find an exit is undoubtedly part of why this is so.

23. Only two ways to get out...
Buy something and an exit will miraculously appear.

Or, follow the screams of delight of little children and jump into the great pool of plastic balls with them. You will then be thrown out.

24. I bought a big, huge candle for $20.
I have never seen a big candle this tall.

I then mangaged to find my way out, strange.

I saw the kids playground.

29. Was this the Houston one? I lost my family in that store for an hour once.
I got separated from the spouse and kids and we didn't find each other for literally an hour. To be fair, I wasn't in a hurry to find them. :) But still. Big store.
