On a limited release for a beer, a customer violated the 6 growler limit, and got 50+ growlers

Is this ethical?

Reason I ask is that in beer circles, there have been those who have defended this action, saying that 'it's your right as a consumer to buy as much as you can afford.'

You see, there was a line for growler fills of this once-a-year beer.

The house rule was 'Only Six Growlers can be filled' which is a pretty generous amount given most breweries. So this guy pulls up in a van and proceeds to get six growlers, go back in line, get another six, etc. Everyone is seeing him do it, and is booing him every time he comes back - but he keeps doing it until he buys, in his words $1500 worth of beer.

The reason we all know this is that he made a post on a board for beer enthusiasts bragging about it - with his only defense being 'I'm not selling it on eBay - I'm trading it at cost!'

Other customers told the staff, but shit, there are hundreds of people there - they can't be policemen. They trust us, and that's their policy.

But I had a problem with this guy doing it - I think its wrong to game the system as he did.

Do you?


PS : The brewery ran out of this special release beer early, much earlier than they had planed. Like around 7 pm, and the plan was to have it last the next few days

Sure they do. Southern CT alone had two competing brands in my day (mid-'90s): Norwalk's New England Atlantic Amber and New Haven's Elm City.
