3. Pretty time of the year.
Drive around and look at the wild flowers.

San Antonio has the river walk, nice when it isn't 100 outside.

4. The River is green all the time for some reason.
Even when they dye it during St Patties day it looks the same. LOL

8. The last time I was at the river walk was last year when it was really hot.
The water looked like bayou water.

6. Drive to Boerne
And eat at Hungry Horse Restaurant. Best "regular food" in the area. Just plain, good food.

7. If you have a car, drive to Fredericksburg.
Great restaurants & wineries. Also birthplace of Chester Nimitz, and one of the best WWII museums I've seen.

The mission trail, I've heard, is cool. I've never done it personally. But it takes you beyond the Alamo to other missions in the area. The River Walk is cool for about a day. There is also a historic German neighborhood with some beautiful houses if you're into that (can't remember the name though). Great place to eat is the Liberty Bar (it's slanted-very old building). Now keep in mind that you can everything above in one day. The second day, hit the zoo. The third day get out and see the hill country- Fredricksburg, Johnson City, New Braunfels. Or come to Austin!
ETA: You have to go to the Menger Hotel downtown just to walk around or have a drink in the bar. Very historic. T. Roosevelt and his Rough Riders used to meet there.

15. King William District
& aren't they moving the Liberty Bar?

There's also a great BBQ joint on the East Side close to the Alamodome...can't recall the name now though. :(

17. Definitely New Braunfels. Also Gruene,
Natural Bridge Caverns, Pedernales Falls State Park and Enchanted Rock.

Here's a cool site to look up the history of all these places we've named so far :)

13. I did medic training nearby at Ft Sam Houston...
.
... but only remember going in to San Antonio for part of one day and the only
memorable thing about it was how TINY The Alamo was compared to what I expected
(the river walk was kinda pretty).
.
Spent all of our spare time down at the Canyon Lake Rec Area drinking beer and
working on serious sunburns.

14. You'll probably be in time for FIESTA!

two week long, city-wide party. Lots of events & parades.

Oh, & there's the Alamo thing & the Missions to check out. The Witte Museum. Brackenridge Park. The Zoo. The Riverwalk (although it's now pricey & full of chain restaurants instead of local joints.) First Fridays in the Arts District. Farmer's Market at the old Pearl Brewery on Saturdays.

If you're downtown, hit Schilo's for lunch. Home-made root beer. :9 Good food. Everyone else will tell you to eat at Mi Tierra's, but I won't. Head for Casa Rio instead. :)
