We are running out of time on our dream boat.
The owner set a deadline for the end of the month to get this deal done. She is still in the boat yard getting a near new engine installed, and is waiting for parts (the current owners problem). On our side we had to wait for a signed copy of the survey to get our slip, and only after securing a slip we could get the loan from our credit union. We are basically borrowing from ourselves so getting the loan is no problem. Getting the funds release in the next few days is..

This is the boat we want to sail around the world for our retirement. She may be slipping through our fingers..

1. Keep the faith bro,
How long has she been on the market? If the money is in the bag, why's the current owner pressing you? If he doesn't have a solid reason, maybe it's a red flag?

3. He doesn't want to sell her.
Alley and I walked by her for several months before we ran in to the owner working on her. The owner is a pilot that lives in the eastern pacific, and comes in to town every month to work on her. He is spending a lot of time and money to get her in shape. Since we made him an offer, he has found same model but in "turnkey" shape up in San Francisco. In order to get that boat he has to sell this one. If he doesn't he will keep this nearly cruise ready one.

We had her surveyed by the expert on this type of boat and he found her to be in good shape and her value is double what we are paying. The owner has enough done on her to be at the project tipping point, another words he has restored her enough to keep her, so if we are not ready it is no sweat to him.

This model is famous for being able to survive heavy weather, groundings, one has even been T-boned by a freighter and made it back to port. Another one of these was caught in "The Perfect Storm", the captain and crew was forced by the Coast Guard to abandon her. A week later the boat was found washed up on shore, the owner found her, had her drug off the beach and sailed her away.

These things are the sailboat versions of an armored tank. In offshore condition these boats sell for double what her surveyed value is. At the price we have negotiated is the best deal we could hope to find for this model. The less we pay, the longer we can cruise.
