5. Why, thank you!
I've been wanting to make one for quite a while (more than a decade, in fact) and yesterday I finally sat down and figured it out. The "weave" is different from the usual styles in which I work, but it was a fun departure.

This particular one is pretty heavy, but I might make three lighter ones for juggling, etc.

7. Do you make chain mail?
I had a friend in college who did; I have a necklace he made for me and while I rarely wear it now, it's a joy to hold and play with.

You know, before there was color in the world?

12. I think I saw you with this in a movie.
.
Captain Orrex: The way your dad looked at it, this Rubik's Chainmail was your birthright. He'd be
damned if any slopes gonna put their greasy yellow hands on his boy's birthright, so he hid it, in
the one place he knew he could hide something: his ass. Five long years, he wore this Rubik's Chainmail
up his ass. Then when he died of dysentery, he gave me the Rubik's Chainmail. I hid this uncomfortable
piece of metal up my ass for two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now,
little man, I give the Rubik's Chainmail to you.

.

.
.
Perhaps I just dreamed that.

14. That would be a heck of a hunk of metal to wear up one's ass.
Of course, you'd make a lovely little jingling sound wherever you walked, so maybe it would be worth it.

17. Nice job Orrex!
What guage is that? Is it stainless? My hands hurt just thinking about weaving in those close quarters!

Here's something I did last spring.

18. Very nice work!
That European Box form shown in your pic was the first "three dimensional weave that I learned how to do, so it has a special place in my heart.

Are yours stainless? At a glance, I'd guess 16gg with a 5/16" internal diameter. Am I close? And where'd you get the clasps for these pieces?

The cube is 14gg galvanized steel, with a 9/32" internal link diameter. Some parts of it were indeed very tough to work!

Thanks for looking, and thanks for the kind words!

19. Thanks Orrex.
Great guess, right on the money. I used to own a screen printing shop, and one of my clients was doing biker themed t-shirts. They tried to branch out into wallet chains, and I ended up learning how to do it too. The clasps are actually from marine halyard supplier. This set is about the last of the stock I have left and I made these for my son last year.

Thanks for the compliment. I'd love to get into it as a hobby someday.

25. That might be a little out of my pay-grade...
However, I was thinking of making a cube 8X the size of this one. I figure it would take somewhere around 2500 links... Not impossible by any means, but slow going!

And it would probably wind up weighing about 5 pounds.

Impressive. I can't even begin to imagine the patience it takes to create something so intricate. I would go absolutely nuts. Seriously.

26. It's intricate, yes, but not especially difficult
In terms of the overall difficulty of the craft, I'd say that it's no harder than crocheting or knitting. Sure, the medium is less pliable, but the basic process is easy to learn.

Thanks for the kind words!
