I'm earning a PhD in an area of social sciences.
Think I'll get a job?

I'm feeling sorta down about my prospects at the moment.

1. I thought having a PhD meant that you would have to turn down job offers

just from receiving so many.

But, hell, you could always do like me and become a trucker. There's still jobs to be had in trucking.

2. I would... but I like what I study too much.
Wish I could commit 100% of my time to my research. Funding, anyone?

3. Actually used my History degree for a job once- minimum wage
Edited on Mon Feb-22-10 01:40 AM by JCMach1
was a tour guide/prop in a living history museum.

Oh yeah, was part-time too. :(

Mostly outside in wool and long sleeves without AC in the Florida summer.

Just make sure you back your degree up with something else!

My other degree was in English... sounds useless. However, I focused on pedagogy and assessment.

I currently work in University Administration for a job and write poetry for myself (and occasional publication).

4. My little brother majored in communications
before he went to law school. Today he uses his communications degree more than his law degree.

5. You will get a job Writer. Everyone who has graduated in
the past few years with a Ph.D. in my social science program has one. They range from college professor to non-profit executive director to think tank policy analyst to consultant.
