Good morning Lounge
How are you today?

Fuck, it is cold here ... 30°F, feels like 18°F .... When is spring coming????????????????????????????

So yesterday I went to the dentist because my jaw is hurting again since 3 weeks. He told me: a) my right temporomandibular joint shows signs of abrasion (is that the correct word?) and is inflamed. Great. I am now prescribed Ibuprofen 800 to kill the inflammation. Also I am supposed to chew on the right side to give the jaw a rest and also to wear my stupid brace all the time (during the night). Good thing there is no man in my life these days. Kissing would be hard with that brace ....

On another note ... if you want to laugh about Germany and the Germans read this http://nothingforungood.com/ It is hilarious. The guy put his essays into a book and I read that yesterday. He is an American who lived in Germany for a bit.

Example

Quick Tipp - Germans use their bicycles to go places
When it comes to bicycles, Germans have a fundamentally different attitude than Americans. Germans use their bicycles to go places, whereas Americans go places to use their bicycles.

When we want to go for a bike ride, we have two options. We may either hop in the car and head to the gym, where the bicycles are lined up in front of an array of television sets, or we can mount the bicycle onto the car and drive to a remote location to enjoy a ride while comparing gear with fellow bicycle riders. We of course need to make sure we are dressed up in a colorful racing outfit, special bike shoes, and a super aerodynamic helmet.

Germans on the other hand walk out of the door, hop on their bike and ride it somewhere.

The point is, when you are walking in Germany and you notice part of the sidewalk is paved smooth, stay off, or else someone is going to scream at you “Radlweg!” This translates to “Please refrain from walking on the bicycle path.” They are especially angry because they aren’t on their bicycle to enjoy a ride. It’s a cold, drizzly day and your impedance is going to make them late to work.

Hell, I don't even own a bike. I haven't had one since 1986. I loved riding it though.

6. Good morning, MHC. Bicycles, oh yeah.
I should ride mine, now that the weather is improving (55F yesterday!). It's good exercise. But the tires have lost air during the winter. So much work to pump them up. I guess that's good exercise too.

But 55F is still too cold for me to ride my bike. Even if we had 50F.

14. Nice pic, Ms. HC.
May I suggest that in addition to the Ibuprofen, you rinse, regularly, with an anti-bacterial mouth wash and/or HOT WATER with salt.

Bonne chance.

Sorry to hear about your jaw problems. Not only is it painful, but annoying too. Hopefully it'll start feeling better soon.

I'll take some time later to read your link, but your bicycle excerpt is funny. My bike collected a lot of dust last summer, but like you, I have every intention of utilizing it soon.

I sure hope that your jaw/mouth gets better soon. In the past, I've had orthodontic problems and know how unpleasant it can be.

I live outside a small town in the Midwest USA. The bike path here is 25 miles of nothingness in the middle of nowhere.

I remember being so surprised by the reaction of pedestrians when I hollered ahead to inform them that a bicycle was approaching and would be passing them on their left. It was clear when some people moved to the left and then to the right that it took a few moments for some people to process exactly what I had said. So I always made sure to call out early enough so people could think about what they had heard and then react. If I suspected that there was any confusion I would continued to talk to them until it was clear that we were all on the same page.

If I was alone, I told them so as I passed and if there was others with me I told them how many were behind me.

It was amazing how many people hollered their thanks as I/we passed. I didn't understand why until years later when I started walking the path rather than riding.

That's when I found that bicycles would often just appear from nowhere when you least expected it. If you were careful to walk to one side they would just go whipping past with no warning which made you wonder what would have happened if something had captured your attention on the other side of the path.

It may be called a bike path, but it's not too much to ask that when you approach somebody from behind and are traveling much faster than they that you give them reasonable warning. On the other hand if you're walking while listening to music (or whatever) so you can't hear what's going on, it's best to not change course without looking behind first.

We use our bells for that. :) Of course you still don't know which side the biker is on though. So your approach is really very considerate.

I don't even want to think about the future when the cartilage is going to be worse. Is it possible to get a fake jaw joint???

28. a lot of truth in that essay...
there just aren't a lot of safe places to ride, unless you live somewhere rural...

Das Wort des Tages
German Word of the Day

"radebrechen" -- to speak broken English/German, etc.; speak pidgin (English/German, etc.)

...und dann radebrechte Paul McCartney ein paar Kinderverse auf Deutsch.
...and then Paul McCartney rattled off a few nursery rhymes in broken German.

Hans radebrechte auf Italienisch, er wolle mitkommen.
Hans said in broken Italian that he wanted to come along.

Principal Parts: radebrechen (er radebrecht), radebrechte, geradebrecht (this ancient German verb is regular; it does not follow the irregular pattern of brechen, brach, gebrochen!)

36. I wonder, too
is this really spring, with light rain and milder temperatures, or is it just a temporary break from winter and winter will come roaring back in the next 3-4 days.

Does the doctor have anything you can do, other than take pain relievers and eat soup?

37. All I know
is that winter still has its hand on Germany.

What I can do is putting in the brace each night. That reliefes the pressure on the cartilage. The ibuprofen is less for the pain but for stopping the inflammation.
