Is is possible to interact with any business without them asking me to fill out a survey?
Went to PC Magazine to read a review of the Windows 7 phone. Bombarded with prompts to take a survey about the site.

Called Verizon Wireless to ask a simple question about phone coverage overseas. Had to sit through a recorded message begging me to "answer a few questions" after the call.

Phoned Dell support about a PC problem and a replacement part was shipped. Got several emails asking me to fill out a customer satisfaction survey - then a couple more "reminding" me of an apparent obligation on my part to do so. All deleted.

It's getting to the point that if I walk into a convenience store to buy a cup of coffee I guess I'll be asked to "participate in a study about your shopping experience." Or if I buy a newspaper from a sidewalk vendor I'd better throw down that fifty cents and sprint away top-speed before the clipboard people accost me to "find out your level of satisfaction with the transaction you just conducted."

Can any company just sell me something without hounding me and pissing me off by trying to compel me to perform some free consumer research on their behalf?
