Here's our pound pooch, Ty, who turned into a poodle once he was groomed. When we first got him he had a severe ear infection and a lot of tooth tartar. He even had a pork chop sliver embedded in his lower gum, which had caused his gumline to recede. He's all fixed up and fine now, but I take him to the vet for a checkup once a month to make sure he stays that way. He's a sweetheart - the most loving doggy we've ever known. He may be around 5 or 6 years old. That's his vet's guess.

1 - the day he became ours, a little over a year ago

2 - about a couple of weeks ago (or maybe a little longer ago than that).

4. Sally, my very Continental girl
She's in love with a Basque Border collie that drives past the house each day in the back of a pick-up and is doing everything she can to garner his attention, including acting French. Please don't draw attention to the pancake on her head, she's convinced it's the most stylish of French chapeaux.

22. Sally, ma cheri...
.
...you and I know that you are wearing, not an abominable American,
how you say... cake of pan... but an adorable and oh-so-stylish crepe.
.
Be strong, cheri -- and ignore any comments like, "You better take
that crepe in the backyard and not on the carpet."
.
Cretins.

17. My best buddy died several years ago
and my last barn-kitty died this last winter.

I'm too old for pets now (I don't like the thought of what might happen to them if they were to outlive me), but I still enjoy the company of my niece's creatures.

21. reconsider, mugu
a pet is such a delightful companion for anyone, especially older folk, and I remember reading that pets who outlive their owners genrally find good homes amongst the family/friend/aquaintances

25. I lived in the country until town moved out and surrounded me.
Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 06:35 AM by Mugu
In the past, almost all of the creatures that lived with me had already been betrayed by a human at least once. You could tell by their behavior (wanting to lay in your lap or sit on your shoulder, insisting on using a litter-box even though they were outdoors, etc.) Now that town has moved out to me, thankfully fewer of these refugees show up here. But, I'm guessing that it's only because the college kids take them further out in the country to dump them and the coyotes take care of the problem.

I've seen the look on their face as they patiently wait at the spot where they were dumped for their family to come back for them. I just can't stand the thought of being the cause of yet another betrayal even if it's because of my death.

Edit to add: I once had to leave town for a few days to attend a funeral and my ladyfriend agreed to take my doggy to her house. We only did this once because he cried constantly from the moment that he got there and then when she let him out in her fenced backyard he went right over the fence. We figure that it was only because he couldn't find his way home that he eventually showed up on her front porch.

After that, if I had to leave town, he was left at home and she went there to tend him. Even then, after being around him many years and having many of her own large dogs, she was still frightened by him. He never hurt her or anybody else, but he made it clear that he never completely trusted anybody other than me.

33. oh no need to tell me about it
my bf lives rural and he's been out of town so I drive out to his lonely gravel road, usually at night because I am a night worker - well, you know how dark it is in rural areas - I'm walking up his driveway and I hear what sounded like VICIOUS GROWLING. So I slowly back away and call him, saying WTF, is that a coyote or something? I dunno he says, get in your car, pull forward and scan with your lights. I did this and spotted the offender - a half grown puppy. Adorable. Probably a dump (the initial growling was pure fear on his part; after I called him over he was all over me). Good ending to this story though, Tom's neighbors, who came to talk to him about trimming a tree line, LOVED this dog and have taken him on. Tom suspects this dog was dumped and I am with you, I cannot understand how people can do this - it should be a FELONY.

32. Usually you upload pics to
a hosting site- photobucket and tinypic are two commonly used ones. They're free, and once you've got pics up there you simply copy and paste the appropriate code (message board) into you message (the hosting site creates the code and labels it for you- you just have to cut and paste).
