Fisher & Paykel Washer - Grrrrrrr!!!!!
Just venting here, but informing, as well.

I have a new Fisher & Paykel Washer. It's less than six months old and I'm already having major issues with it. I previously had the same brand and it was good, so when it came time to replace the washer, I bought another F&P. Big mistake.

As with all things, I suppose, quality construction never lasts. At least it seems that way. A product is good, and then in a few years, it's crap.

As a consumer, though, don't you ever just get tired of getting screwed? I will insist that they honor their warranty. No doubt about that. And I fully expect that they will. But there is no reimbursement to me for the aggravation that I experience having to deal with their product that breaks. I think there should be a standard of compensation for the consumer when products don't perform as they should simply for the inconvenience that this causes. That might bring quality back onto the radar.

Anyone else feel the same way?

1. I know you know this, but your washer was built to break down
Frustrating isn't it? We spend thousands of dollars on appliances that should last decades, but instead last only a few years. Ticks me off how we are screwed over again and again.

2. You're right!
I guess knowing that makes it all the more frustrating, too.

In the grand scheme of things, this is small stuff, but I face it over and over and over again with appliances, products, vehicles, you name it, and it IS very frustrating. I know I'm not alone!

There is NO validation given whatsoever to the time, money, frustration, aggravation, inconvenience or stress that the consumer has to deal with. I'm lugging laundry to my neighbor's today to try to keep up while the parts arrive to fix the washer. (Damn lucky to have someone near, too). I'll have to take off work AGAIN when the parts arrive so that the repairman can come and fix the damn thing.

And do you know the two words that I have NOT heard from anyone in all of this? (Not that this will be a surprise!!!) Those words: "we're sorry".

3. My washer is fine.
It's my F & P dryer that I want to heave through the nearest window.

It takes forever to dry anything. Sometimes the top locks and I can't get the stupid thing open. In the winter cold air backs in from the vent and it automatically shuts itself off and sounds that stupid alarm. I can't get it to start again without unplugging it to reboot the system.

Which makes doing laundry in the winter a real treat. Luckily, I live in the midwest so winter only lasts 4 or 5 months. :eyes:

4. Thanks for the info. We are looking for a new washer.
Think I may ask the lounge if they have a recommend.

5. Good idea.
I hear a lot of good reviews for Kenmore appliances, but aren't they really Whirlpool? And I've had a Whirlpool dryer that was okay, but only lasted about 5 years.

I wish there was something out there that I could buy that would just WORK like it's supposed to. I mean, I would expect to replace a washer after 10 years, maybe even six years with heavy, heavy use. But six months is ridiculous.

8. Kenmore has been about nine or ten different things
Unlike Craftsman power tools (which were once good, then became crap and now are at least usable) Kenmore is still a reliable brand.

I have a Whirlpool that's pretty good, and it was made in the US. Bosch is supposed to be decent. Miele is extremely good, but Miele is on the list of the shit I'm gonna buy when I hit the lottery.

9. Kenmore is actually made by Whirlpool for the most part.
Whirlpool purchased Maytag, so they make a lot of Kenmore-branded appliances.

6. That's sad, they have such a great reputation. I've got two with bad reputations
and they are indestructable. I bought my spouse one of the original Maytag Neptunes 11 years ago, and it's still going, though it had to be repaired twice--once under warranty. When I moved out five years ago I bought a Whirlpool Calypso. Both of these washers had class action suits and a lot of bad press, but both have been fantastic for me.

FP, on the other hand, is always rated highly.

You just never know. :(

10. F&P hails from New Zealand...
to me, that's just a wee bit exotic...appliances from New Zealand??? Stick with something a little bit more familiar...

11. And that would be?
I've literally been through GE, Maytag, Whirlpool and now F&P!!! Oh, and not to mention the Frigidaire refrigerator!!! I would LOVE to buy only American, but I'd love to have ANYTHING that would last even half the time that the manufacturer promises.

I knew F&P was a New Zealand product when I bought the first washer, and as indicated, was very pleased with it. Lowe's was selling them at the time and they were very well reviewed. But this second one has been crap already. I wonder if they were bought out by someone?

At least locally here, Lowe's is no longer carrying them "in stock" but does have them available for purchase. The F&P USA home base is in California now.

I may be finding a river and some rocks!!!! LOL
